The reason behind Tony's humor is pretty dark. The thing is He is very sensitive and cares about people too much , and what could go wrong. He thinks too much , His mind leads him to the hundreds of possible events that could go wrong in any situation. The joking is part is a coping mechanism. Spider man also does the same thing. Through out the movies you can see, whenever tony starts to talk serious that moment instantly becomes dark and hopeless. It almost like "His nature meant to be funny to get things going" Just like water meant to be wet , otherwise its not water anymore.

But that's the thing. I know I haven't seen a lot of classics that everyone else has seen. I also know there are a lot of so called Marvel fans who have never watched the earlier films. Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that there's just a lot of good movies to be watched and we can't watch them all, even if we are a cinephile.

Thank you for this reaction, Kristen, although I am quite surprised it took you this long to watch this series despite them being in the zeitgeist for many years now. Still, I guess you are lucky in that you don't have to wait like we did for the successive films and can watch them all in quick succession (which you hopefully will do). Having watched this movie several times now, I'm constantly surprised that his 'I am Ironman' still manages to bring on the goosebumps.
