The pregnant lady being air lifted was real, the fishing community getting into rescue actions were real, the young generation stepping up to help necessary amenities reach camps, to raise funds, were all real. There were men who bent their back so that an old women could step on him and get into a rescue boat. The Kerala community really got together to help each other. Even after the floods stopped, there were a lot of work to rebuild the state. College students travelled to othrr districts and volunteered to clean the flood hit houses.

Indian civil services exam is one of the toughest examination to crack with a staggering 200 people getting selected from 2 million aspirants Being able to pass this , not able to join because of the certificates not presented will be devastating Even though the government later announced such certificate issues will be resolved under the flood provisions yet the panic is still devastating for that moment The people panicking and going for the certificates have really happened all across the state at that time

The thing is that none of us (actually majority of us ), we malayalis, hadn't been through any such situations before. Frankly speaking, everybody was in shock while all of this was happening. And because of that most of us weren't thinking rationally. I agree there were a lot of errors in judgements of the situations. The beauty of this movie is, it has done a great job in indulging that mental state of an average malayali, during those days.

I have set myself a list of things I need to prioritise in case of a possible disaster and high up in the list is to grab my briefcase of certificates before running out the home. I can totally relate with Meera. Most of the stories here are inspired from real life incidents eg, the pregnant woman being air lifted.
@suni485 Жыл бұрын
Yeah but this is only in India that we need to do this I guess. I western countries you just have to email the collage or whoever given the certificates the reason . They will issue another one with no fuss.. I lost my nursing certificates and only managed to get half of them . That too duplicate ones after a lot of procedures which is so frustrating But I live in UK and for the ones that I lost from here I just emailed and they send me out new one. I also had an incident where in a group training course I said I would grab my passport and certificates incase of such emergencies . All other people were thinking what's wrong with me . For them the most important thing was family photos and memories which can't be replaced. Funnily enough I felt embarrassed although with my experience I wouldn't have said anything else.

This movie is inspired by the 2018 kerala floods the writers collected information about the incident which came on newspapers and news channels and they built a story from it , actually all these are done by thousands of volunteers who are doing different kinds of jobs who in association with govt bodies , police , army , rescue teams .... Literally every place in Kerala is covered with water due to the heavy rainfall, and high tides in sea . Due to heavy rainfall around 43 dams in Kerala filled up and had to be opened up , even after that the rain continued . So due to rain and water from dams flooded Kerala firstly the places near the sea flooded then all other areas .... Landslides also happened in many places. Literally like from Aug 8th it started and on aug 12th to aug 16 it was on peak . Even though the flood water drained by around aug 22nd then the days were for cleaning the houses , shops and everything that was covered in mud , and for rebuilding kerala . I'm so grateful that I was also part of this process from rescuing , setting up relief camps and collection and distribution of required things. Then cleaning up houses , clearing roads , lakes and building new homes .... Literally for around 3 months I was also part of these activities and I'm grateful for that . Actually in the year 2019 all these things were repeated but that was not as big as these in 2018 .

In kerala remote areas, it is common that snakes like cobra get into house rooftops and common people are used to these situations and they will either try to kill the snakes or scare them away. Its not like potraying him as hero, it is normal to keralites in villages. And certificates are so important bcoz it takes months to get original certificates or authorized copies from exam boards, during that time the candidates wont be able to apply any jobs or may get age over for exams😂, exam like IAS is very competitive and candidates put in years of hard work to those exams

Thing is in India these documents are irreplaceable. Your 10th grade marklist (and other academic certificates) are documents that hold the same amount of importance as a birth certificate or passport, and loosing it for a lot of people means that you no longer have proof of your education and years of hardwork. It's a bit different now but for our parent's generation, if you somehow lost your university degree, you no longer have any proof that you even went to university since nothing was digitalized or stored reliably in records. After the floods it became a little easier for people to apply for copies of these docs, but before the floods it wasn't even an option for a lot of people. It might seem petty but I can understand the stress and panic of loosing what is essentially a ticket to your entire livelihood and future.
