Yeah, Jack Black in a blue shirt looks just like Minecraft Steve. He's the best actor to play Minecraft Steve, and anyone who thinks that Minecraft Steve isn't a fat guy with a beard hasn't played the game. His design is literally the most accurate character design from any movie adaptation of a video game; Jack Black looks more like Minecraft Steve than Mark Hamill looks like Luke Skywalker. Do these people not even realize that Jack Black starred in literal masterpieces, such as the Jumanji sequels, The Mandalorian: Season 3 and Borderlands? His popularity made a comeback with him playing the voice of bowser. But like all things, it became less and less relevant until it's just forgotten because people have long moved on to new things. He's desperately trying to ride the last lingering remnants of any popularity he has left, but all it's doing is making him look desperate and pathetic. His career is over, but he just won't let it go. After the Mario movie he could have bowed out gracefully and just fell off and been an actor people looked back fondly on, but after the political drama and now this, people will always remember him as the cringe actor who fell off and most people disliked in the end.

Depends on what's done and how they do it. There have been a lot of games that got live action films that have flopped. The 1990s version of the Super Mario Bros movie was a mess. Now I'm not saying live action adaptations of games can't work. We see this with Sonic, but it is worth mentioning that it would need need effort put into it. Example, they had to redesign Sonic because of how bad it was. I also think context of the game could play a role in things as well. Now, I doubt Cuphead would work as a live action movie no matter how hard anyone tried, but Punch-Out would be a different story as it could be marketed to people that enjoyed the Rocky movies.

From what I've heard, it seems though that in the Movie, Steve was also a normal Human who also got through the Portal (I think when he was still a Kid), so it makes perfect Sense in the Context of the Movie for him to not be blocky. But they could've still chosen a Actor that looks more like Steve does in the Game

Ok so im tired of people using "its for kids" as a crutch to justify low quality stuff. Wanna hear my defense? Its super simple, really. The lego movie. Its a movie thats made for kids, but is funny enough that anyone can enjoy. Its not meant for adults but it also doesnt scare them away. But most importantly IT FEELS LIKE A MOVIE DESERVING OF ITS TITLE. There is very minimal cgi. Its mostly real bricks and stop motion. Its highly detailed and feels like if...for some absurd reason...you had enough bricks...you could recreate it. People have waited a decade for this. Its been in the works as a concept SINCE 2013. People wanted a a cultural phenomenon as big as, if not bigger than infinity war. This was supposed to be "the minecraft movie" not "a minecraft movie". If you wanted "a minecraft movie" it should have been a low budget short film. No one would have complained. People would have brushed it off as "just for kids".

Obviously getting a Brad Pitt or Tom cruise will cost a few millions but sometimes you can hire an actor/actress for less than a million (before the movie comes out and in their contract make an agreement where they get money on the back end depending on how well the movie does after it comes out). CGI can cost tens of millions of dollars to cgi an individual for the entire film. Think about it if you film a person, that doesn’t cost that much, but animating a person on a computer obviously takes a lot of time and effort by teams of people. So what do you think takes more money to do in the end?
