Leeds had just beaten Manchester United in the 1965 FA Cup semi-final when Jack Charlton found out that he had received his first England call-up. Jack immediately went into the opponent's dressing room to tell his brother but Bobby wasn't too happy to hear the news at that time.

Lads - the video got removed from KZbin - but the BBC england doco from 2006 about the 1966 World Cup story has the full story . Apparently after he told his brother bobby - pat crerand replied “we’re all very pleased for you jack - now f ock off out of our dressing room”

It’s a strange feeling for me. I’m English with a huge Irish background so I love this man for so many different reasons. Many people love this man for different reasons but what a legend he was to everyone. RIP our kid, English and Irish legend!

I wasn't born when England won the World Cup. I learned who Jack was when he was managing Ireland. Perhaps the biggest compliment I can give is that I was invested in their World Cup run even though I'm not Irish. RIP Jack Charlton. True English and Irish legend.

The 'Denis' Jack referred to in his story was Denis Law of course. Despite knocking seven bells out of each other on the pitch the two were actually good pals off the park.

Hello Adam, my name's Brian and i was born and raised in London, but i've lived in Dublin for a long time and i remember the summer of Italia 90, when this country got to the Q F of the world cup, the whole country came to a standstill, no public transport, no buses, no trains, i will never forget it! Jack was responsible for some of the greatest sporting moments in Irish history. The summer of 1990 will never be forgotten by every Irish person that was there to enjoy it. Magical times. RIP Jack.

Sleep well big man. Brought a lot of joy to us Irish fans, when at the time, we hadn't much to be joyful about. Were always either very unlucky or robbed in qualifying tournaments before Jack came on board. We thank you for the memories !!!

As a 12 year old boy and a 45 year old man typing this.............Thank you so much Jack!! I was only a boy of 12 in 1990 but we need to respect all those young English players who claimed to be Irish because of grandparents etc. Without Ray, Andy, John, Mick, Jason, Mark, Chris, Kevin, Andy, Sean,David, Gerry, Alan, Tony, Rory, Liam, Johnny. I'm leaving out so mny legends and some are Irish guys but it was great times and I've a smile writing this. RIP Jack thank you x

Big Jack celebrated his 38th birthday in his penultimate season at Leeds, a season in which he only missed one league match. Not bad when you consider that in this era players definitely enjoyed a pint a ciggie!
