In the Matrix Morpheus was named after the greek god of dreams, in a movie franchise whose entire premise is based on the concept that humans are not aware they are “asleep” in a virtual reality simulation, with Morpheus even going so far as to directly ponder the question of how one would know if they were asleep if they never woke. Whereas for Morpheus and the characters of the Matrix this is a very real query with real ramifications, Jack Crawford doesn’t have time for all that metaphysical nonsense, and just states he knows when he’s awake, a complete, almost ludicrously tongue and cheek rejection of one of Lawrence Fishburne’s most famous characters
