@@chuckweiny1546 This is indeed true, i come from a long line of family pugilists. My great g.f. was a prize fighter,(1870's to 1890's) my grandfather (1920 to 1937) was a triple golden gloves champion and also my one uncle from 1935 to 1944). He was the toughest man ive ever seen, he even entered the Korean war at a very old age back then. He was 79 yrs old (considered heavyweight at 225 most of his life), i was 22 yrs old and at the V.F.W. one night to visit him and my aunt when i came into town. He was in the bathroom when i walked in, i was talking to my great aunt and these 3 iron workers started giving her a very hard time (she was elderly and the bartender). I tried being nice to them and told them she was my aunt and to please show her respect. Uncle Robert came out of the bathroom and was also kind to them, told them this is my sister you're speaking to like that. They cussed at him and in the matter of LESS than 3 seconds these 3 fellas were knocked out cold viciously !! Never in my life will i ever forget that moment and how fast, powerful and accurate. The 3 men spent a while in our local small town hospital, broken orbital bones, broken jaws, missing teeth. My point is yes, we certainly do know how to keep that power and instinct as long as we are alive. It's natural and never leaves one.

How many time we read here in KZbin "Marciano would beat Ali or Foreman or any of today heavyweight". Let's be real! The man was so small, so light, he had no head movement, no footwork AT ALL! Watch his fights please. He seems a lighter Chuvalo. A cruiserweight in today's division. Could he beat any 240 6.4 or 6.5 ft. fighter of the '90s or '00s? Even Ali, who would jab him him to death, Holmes the envious, Frazier with relentless stamina would beat him in 4 or 5 rounds. The man was standing still all the fight long. One little step at the time. Archie Moore knocked him down! Think what Foreman would do to Marciano or Bowe, Lewis. Joshua, Klitchko, etc. Bah...

Liston was coming into Ali when an Ali short but sneak right hand caught him flush on the jaw. As Dempsey said, you can’t tell the impact of a punch until you are on the receiving end of it. Suffice it to say, however, the force of the Ali right hand, on impact with Liston’s jaw, lifted Liston’s advancing left foot off the canvas several inches. Down he went and confusion reigned thereafter. After Liston got up, Walcott allowed the fight to continue until Nat Fleischer intervened and told Walcott that Liston had been counted out. However, the count should not have been started until Ali retreated to a neutral corner, which he didn’t do, and Walcott should never been overruled especially by Nat Fleischer who had no capacity to render any decision as he only was the editor of Ring Magazine. The fight should have continued after Liston arose and punches were being exchanged until Fleischer’s unlawful intervention.

@Vegan Higler It's super funny people think that punch just pummeled someone like Liston..That they can't see it was acting and set up..Liston literally looked like he was missing his punches on purpose, making them seem realistic to not accidentally knock Ali out..The acting when he got up on his knee and went back down was pretty funny..bad acting too, but he tried..It's incredible the Ali fans that really think he beat him fairly. Even the first fight some suspect wasn't honest, in addition to really serious injuries he had and tried to change the fight date..but they said he'd lose his title if so.
@souldesire59322 жыл бұрын
@Vegan Higler yeah that's the word..But I also heard his wife said something that wasn't true, she made it to seem that way about receiving a certain percentage from Ali's fights..This is why, which is totally strange, I think he was pushing Ali's fights on the microphone interview after the fight happened..Totally weird and makes sense..And when liston found out these proceeds weren't true, he threatened and got killed..someone was writing about it in detail, seems to fit in some ways, but I have no idea..All I know is that Ali converted to Islam the very year before and was their main spokesperson..of course they want him champ and will do anything needed to promote what they're pushing..

Liston at that time didn’t want to become champion anymore as he was not given any positive recognition nor seen as a good man in the public eye. Mainly due to his past and mob ties. No one else could do this.

@chuckweiny15465 жыл бұрын
Ali said it best. Ali, did Liston take a dive? "They all take a dive to a certain extent." I agree, to a point, yes. I've seen fighters go down from being hurt, I've seen fighters take a knee. I've seen fighters who could've gotten up, but they had enough. I'm not, nor will I ever take a piss on a man who was in a professional ring, but I can see where Ali was coming from. Marciano was very contrdictary against Ali when he defended his own knockdown by Moore. A short punch he fell into. Look at the punch in slow motion. You know who absolutely idolized and was mesmorized by Ali? Bruce Lee. He, as a 130 pound man generated unreal power from a few inches away. Most of the so called critics don't even know where the power of a punch begins at. It begins where the feet touch the ground. Try standing on ice and throw a hard left hook, your momentum will throw you.

The ages of his most notable opponents were on average past 36 years of age with three of them having fought almost a decade before they faced Marciano. Two of them started out at middleweight and later became legendary light heavyweight champions while the other was an aging journeyman who was 37 years of age with over 70 fights on his ledger. Neither of these men weighed 212 pounds. They were small men who weighed in excess of 188-195 at best. Im referring to Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles and Jersey Joe Walcott. All three had significant mileage on them by the time They fought Marciano and yet he STILL had considerable difficulty with them even in their advanced years. As for Dempsey he's vastly overrated. Take a look at his opponents when he became champion and then look at how he was thoroughly outboxed by a superior ring technician in Gene Tunney not once but twice. Finally and most importantly Dempsey avoided black fighters like the plague. He went out of his way to avoid them. Louis, Ali, Holmes, Lennox Lewis, The Klitschko Brothers fought everyone, drawing no color line because they were not afraid to take on the best. Dempsey would not. After Jack Johnson a large portion of bigoted white America did not want to see a black fighter as champion since it challenged their false superiority image. Dempsey gladly obliged and ducked every single capable black contender in order to not get exposed before and after he became champion.

This is just people speculating.. read Sonny Liston's version of this at the tribunal..its in Ferdie Pacheco's book.. ..he said he got knocked down by a fast punch but was not hurt..he did not get to his feet because the referee Joe Walcott lost control and had not sent Ali to a neutral corner and picked up the count as he should have done...Ali was still dancing around.. Liston said he was afraid Ali would hit him as he was getting up because Liston thought Ali was crazy..so Liston stayed down... The referee Jersey Joe Walcott was not a pro referee and was out of his depth.. Technically, Ali could have been disqualified for not going to a neutral corner after the knock down and Liston could have regained the title while lying on the canvas..that's how bizarre this incident was. From then on professional referees were appointed not ex world champions..

His body never failed him.....it supported his stamina, it was the chin that never failed him.....I share the genes and know the benefits.......don't under estimate the chassis that went along with the heart and strong mental composition......it was the complete package that made him so difficult to reckon with.

This brings a lot of imagination as to what further amazing boxing matches Jack would have showcased as well as the brutal, hard chin, smart boxer, Rocky Marciano. If only Rocky had not have been killed in those sad and honestly tragic circumstances... it would have been great to see these two boxers in the ring again in their primes. I think there is one thing we can all agree on though; They both would’ve demolished everyone in their paths and to even dream of both Jack and Rocky in a bout together, brings a lot of tension to my mind. Overall, two great gentlemen with I would’ve only loved to have met in person.

The punches you don't see are the ones that knock you out. Ali threw that right cross many times in his career && it has proven to be an effective technique to his style. He'd lean back with his arms down and slip a right cross underneath the opponent's left jab as it retracted. He called it the anchor punch.
@goodbyspam2 жыл бұрын
Rocky posited that the punch to the chin could 'confuse' Liston and it occurs to me that even if Ali's punch had a short throw there would have been the advantage provided by leverage, with Liston's spinal cord being the fulcrum. (Like when you can jack up a car with a jack you apply force to point furthest from the fulcrum). This made it 'easy' for the minimal force to disrupt Liston's neurosystem to the point that he was 'confused' and went down. Furthermore, it would have so much easier to stage this (if that was the intent ) with one convincing punch rather than this ambiguous punch. I would be interested to know if it mainly those who have never boxed and never felt a head blow who think this was rigged.
