The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

About four years after this performance he would sing the theme song to the TV show The Love Boat and release a disco version of the song the same year

This is the last "new" Ed Sullivan show. Jack Jones hosted. Ed left after the cancellation notice in March. Then they showed reruns in April and May. Don't know why they suddenly produced a new show. Maybe they expected Sullivan to come back and say goodbye?

Appropriate song then... "I don't know where we went wrong but the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back" might have summed up Ed's feelings.

A friend of mine absolutely loved this bloke in the late 60's...into the 70's.... I disliked him! Intensely.... He was so Old School! I was into the Stones. Led Zepp etc.... But I've mellowed with age..... and I now concede... The bloke was OK...in that era. He was, essentially, an entertainer. and he did his job well. Big Thumbs Up... Belatedly. Mr. GB Car 204.... Yes...Skippy has apologised. XX XX

Gordon Lightfoot's presentation was by far superior. This guy here, having listened to 4 of his songs, inc. The Impossible Dream, well... Jones cuts off the end of each part when he should trail it, making each linger for a moment. Well, I listened to 2 of his best songs, e.g. The Impossible Dream, & I'm not impressed. Give me Dean Martin or Edward Woodward any day. My fav with Woodward is Yesterday When I was Young.
