But it's so much more than the voice it's so much more than the orchestra! It's the message that's back of it Patricia. I tear up every time. 😭

I played his 45 in my family basement, when I was three. The Impossible Dream. I memorized the words. I put music on all the time. Years later, I was hungry for some breakfast. I looked out at the scenery in this little nook, where I landed, after I finished a business account. Then my eyes scanned the place, to find him there. I guess I reached the unreachable star that wonderful day. His song made this toddler dream of a life, going constantly over the top. Thank you for this. My mentor.

On this day in 1967 {February 5th} Jim 'Gomer Pyle' Nabors performed "The Impossible Dream" on the CBS-TV program 'The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour'... His version of the song didn't make Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart but three other artists did chart with it; in 1966 Jack Jones peaked at #35 with the song, and in 1968 The Hesitations reached #42 and also in 1968 Roger Williams' instrumental version peaked at #55... In addition Jack Jones' version peaked at #1 {for 1 week} on July 17th, 1966 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart...

Amazing voice. Natural talent and excellent training. Pure voice with a kind of innocence And handsome. Sinatra saw him as one to watch. They covered some of the same songs. Great Password player, too. He was often on that game show. Many young people don't know what a crooner is. He just came along at a transitional time in music. He could do some songs like those of Bread or Neil Sedaka, even Taylor, but other tunes just weren't suited to his style. They didn't really showcase what he did best.

He's clearly not in breath trouble here... he's truncating for emotive purposes, not due to technical incapacity... For those that know his career and technique, Jones is known to have extreme breath capacity, able to elongate and make transitions from legato phases into elastic vibrato effortlessly... and when required, he's as powerful a pop/jazz singer as there's been over the last 50 years ala Gordon McRae, though with much more improvisational abilities...

Wow...to be able to turn on the TV...w/o a remote...to watch one of probably five or six TV stations....and hear some really great singers doing their craft w/o auto tune...profanity...or moronic lyrics.

Jack Jones could of been another Pavoratti or Enrico Caruso if he was so inclined in Opera, now thats a talent spread.
@Bobbo29311 жыл бұрын
Yes, he's changed other lyrics too, such as replacing "to be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause" which takes away much of the drama of the song. Early on also his vowels tend to be shortened and I think overall this lacks the passion of say Andy Williams' version. Just my opinion!
@jlbaker20003 ай бұрын
Good, but Jack Jones was🎉 more of a fast-paced, romantic pop song crooner.
@Agorante12 жыл бұрын
I would have said he succeeded in spite of his technical defects. He has great hair but skips the climatic high note, sings the diminished vowel in dipthongs, and voices R's. He's constantly in breath trouble. He can't fill out the longer lines. He hasn't got much going for him - except the hair of course. This is a song that cries out for a real singer. Someone for example like Alan Jones - his father.
