Anyone on this blog who knows anything about piping would recognise this is pretty unbelievable playing. My teacher was a very eminent piper, and he could put on a show - but this unconventional technique was not even known to, or heard by, that generation of traditional pipers. This is kind of what Paganini did for the violin. And musical, not just technical. Great!

Long before I had seen this video I had heard of his reputation as the best piper in the world. In fact, I played bagpipes many years ago and listened to the recordings of pipers who were considered among the best. Jack Lee is certainly at that level. It seems there are always those who will say "I've heard better" or "I've seen better" in any artistic or sporting endeavor. Please provide some (any) documentation that what you're saying has any validity.

Have you ever watched the documentaries Ladies from Hell and A Call to the Blood? their documentaries about how the bagpipes becames known as instruments of war, and how pipers were actually banned in England during some period, can't remember but they are great videos. God bless, Mammal46

We still have Ceol Mor (the Great Music) the original Gaelic music for the pipes (often known as piobaireachd), some of which is known to go back to the 1200's (e.g. "The Blue Ribbon", which I believe dates from as far back as that). And we have a wealth of Scottish folk music. Please remember, the words and the tune are often two separate things.
