Jack Rabbit Review, Kennywood Classic Wooden Roller Coaster | All Hail the Double Dip!

Jack Rabbit at Kennywood is a 100 year old wooden roller coaster with a unique setting in a ravine. This was a revolutionary coaster designed by John Miller. It was one of the first rides to feature upstop wheels and the ride is still popular today thanks to the famous double dip.

the airtime on jack rabbit is nuts, you can hear the train go silent while going through the double down. he is not joking when your life is in the hands of a seatbelt

If you want an even better example of how insane the airtime is, go into the double decker pavilion behind the old mill and right next to the Jack Rabbit. Go into the bottom level and you get a clear view straight to the 2nd half of the double dip. Watch the back car's back wheels as it goes down and enjoy that 3 inch wheel gap.

When I rode this for the first I didn’t think it would have more than floater airtime and had my seatbelt all the way loose man was I surprised. Literally thought I was going to die for a second I was ejected higher than the seat back and I actually hit the seat back 😂 ride is insane especially for 100 year old coaster my gosh

This thing was the cutting edge of coaster design in its day. The old scenic railways and the like usually had very gentle dips and low speeds, so even beyond the double down, even the modest by today’s standards speed and dips here must have really wowed riders when it first opened.

I’d heard of the double dip and was anticipating it and have to say it met and exceeded my expectations. As you said, experiencing that powerful of airtime with basically no restraint is heinous in the best way possible.

I grew up riding it. When I started riding other coasters, I would compare their air time with that of the double dip. The other coasters would loose.

The double down is indeed one of the best airtime moments of all time, but I still think some of the other drops have some faint floater. Thunderbolt is really inconsistent for me, so this is probably my favorite wooden coaster in the park.

Although racer runs with a different stock, Kudos to Kennywood for being smart and not ruining the experience for Jackrabbit by using Morgan rolling stock and still using the minimalistic Vettel stock. Thunderbolt has cool looking and rare and unique trains, even if it isn’t the original Vettel stock like jackrabbit’s.

I’m a sucker for old wood coasters, I’m super exited to hop on this in a few years. The trains on it are also some of the lest vettle trains in existence,it’s an earlier design than the yellow and red trains that ran on clp blue streak

The double dip was the first ejector airtime moment, as before ejector was impossible without upstops. Jack rabbit at Seabreeze opened the same year but to my knowledge it does not have ejector.

Denmark’s Rutschebanen is older and it has some wild airtime - five or six moments of it! But still no one moment on Rutschebanen is as powerful as Jack Rabbit’s double dip.

This ride can run three trains. The ride has four block zones. They are, load, which consists of the load station, block A, which consists of the turn out of the Station up until the crest of the lift Hill, block b, which consists of the turn off the lift Hill to the final brake run, then there is the unload block, which consists of the unload station

I don’t know where you heard that there were Ed Vettel trains from the 50s that now operate. That is completely incorrect. Andrew Vettal designed the trains and these are the original trains. Only the front was modified, as they made the small wall to replace some sort of fence.

It would explain why it happened on Gemini at Cedar Point as well. I think I should start taking motion sickness meds when I visit some of these parks from now on.

I've not been to Kennywood, but I was surprised to prefer Grand National over The Big Dipper at Blackpool Pleasure Beach due to its double down drop I thought I'd like less than the biggest (the 2nd) drop of The Big Dipper. Since I've not yet been to Kennywood, how does Jackrabbit compare to Grand National? (I wish I could ask a better question, like how it compares to other wooden coaster in the same park, but it's best I go with what I already know, as long as it's at all relevant.) Jack Rabbit has much less restrictive restraints than Grand National, so the double down has stronger and scarier airtime than Grand National. While Grand National is rougher, I prefer the quantity of airtime on that coaster.

This will probably seem very unlikely but could you see Jack Rabbit getting Titan track sometime, it is getting rough and it's over 100 years old and if it's still going to stay, it might need some upgrades right?
