Nice video. Someone may have already mentioned this in an earlier comment but I think you're not considering that this ride was built in 1920. It may be one of our earliest examples of a coaster with up-stops which allowed for the double down without the train flying into the ravine. At the time this feature was virtually unheard of and the rest of the ride was also very thrilling for its time. So while it's not glass smooth, it's also approaching 100 years old and its better maintained and a better ride than most 5 year old coasters at most other parks. That said I think you're right on that its about a 6 on the thrill-o-meter by today's standards. What I love is that my 3-yo was brave enough to ride it this year - his first "big" coaster! What a great introduction to the world of roller coasters.

Ken Carmichael this coaster was built buy John Miller to show off the upstop, it is debated if this was the first, or if the New York jack rabbit ( with no double down) was the first to use an upstop
@JamiewoodCoasters8 жыл бұрын
The Jack Rabbit was my very first coaster, as it is with most children in Western Pennsylvania. Truly a piece of history. Also, the height requirement is only 36in.

never understood why this is always our first coaster when the race is much less intense
@G.0.5 жыл бұрын
@@Don_Rodrigo44 I think it's because of what OP said. The height requirement used to be so low that it was typically the first coaster that most kids were able to ride. At least, I believe that's what the case was for me from what i can remember at such a young age.

It's fun to imagine what going on this would have been like in 1920, when it first opened. That double down must have been absolutely terrifying for guests, since the car literally tries to launch itself off the track! (It doesn't of course, but it still certainly feels like it)

You do know that this is the 3rd oldest rollercoaster in America and in the 1920s there was like no really thrilling rollercoasters, hell there was barely any rollercoasters in general so I think you should take that into consideration as well......did you know that the jackrabbit is the only rollercoaster with a double dip
@DF-ky6nv6 жыл бұрын
Some people say it's a double down, but I see them differently. Heck, even rcdb lists it as a double down. I just see a double dip as an oversized double down

@CoasterStudios8 жыл бұрын
+Zach M I understand where you're coming from, but I do do it for a reason. The reviews are geared towards the enthusiasts, and the off-rides are meant for the general public when they go searching for the coaster and want to see what it looks like, and may not be looking for a review.

@oneandonlysound34538 жыл бұрын
I'd do it a 8.5. It uses the terrain well which is a lot of fun, and I don't find this ride to be even remotely rough. Also, I do find the fact all of Kennywood's coasters are allegedly "iconic" to be, well, either an overrated statement built up by the gp, or Kennywood itself. To me, this is their iconic wooden roller coaster. Racer is like like any out and back coaster with two sides. I don't even get why anyone thinks "Thunderbolt" is a very good ride, that one is rough and pretty boring. I hope perhaps the meeting with RMC might either involve them doing something with Thunderbolt, Racer, or an original. Personally, I think Thunderbolt would be better off being redone or removed. But Jackrabbit is excellent, Racer could be RMCed easily I think but why not take the weak link.
@thatoneguyjames91737 жыл бұрын
OneAndOnlySound they can't do anything to those wooden coasters because they are national landmarks as well as the carousel.......also the thunderbolt was the fastest rollercoaster of its time so yea
@negativefloof50336 жыл бұрын
Thunderbolt is my 2nd favorite ride at the park, so I think they should go with an original layout, especially considering they have alot of unused land behind the racer
@s1lveracoustic6 жыл бұрын
I'll have to disagree with you, there. I'm pretty sure the Racer is a landmark (idk) so they can't mess with it. Fine by me. Kennywood isn't really a place that major coaster enthusiasts go to. Also, I hope RMC doesn't mess with the Thunderbolt (my only problem with it is that you have to have a partner).
