The Jack Russell Terrier is a small terrier that has its origins in fox hunting; it is principally white-bodied and smooth, rough or broken-coated. The Jack Russell is an energetic breed that relies on a high level of exercise and stimulation and is relatively free from serious health complaints. They are sturdy, tough, and tenacious. They are high on energy and need to exercise at least 30 minutes daily. Their live for about 15 years. Predominantly white in coloration with black and/or tan markings, they exhibit either a smooth, rough or a combination of both which is known as a broken coat.

My vet used to run a "Puppy pre school" basic obedience training for pups. At the end of the sessions they would let the pups have a romp around as part of their socialization skills. For safety sake they separated the big breed dogs from the smaller ones, except for any Jack Russells. They put them in with the big dogs because they played too rough for dogs their own size.

My first Jack Russell lived a great 19 years and after he passed I got another one who is turning 6 this year! Both of them don't bark much at all and don't dig. But they are so full of energy. My neighbour has a German Shepard and we take them out for walks to the dog park and they chase each other around and it takes my neighbours dog 30 mins to get tired and my Jack Russell is still wanting to run around after an hour.

they are a handful. yet, highly intelligent, funny, shed year round, can sleep, playful, loyal, & very loving. my Rainbow aka Pooter passed away this March. he was my dog-son & his meemaw's granddog. he's terribly missed every moment. my baby is irreplaceable (7y/o) got quite sick. tye l jackson I've heard that it's mainly the smooth coat JRTs that shed all your round. Where as the wirey longer coats, not so much. And only during the warmer weather.

I lost a JRT to complications from diabetes when she was 9. Went straight out and got a Parsons Russell... same as a Jack only with longer legs, this one had a birth heart condition and was only supposed to live till she was two. Just lost her in March last year, she was 15 years old, vet stopped predicting her lifespan at age 6. Best dog I ever owned. After her I got a Maltese, super cute little thing and very cuddly but have to say after a JRT it’s kinda like having only half a dog. Will go back to a JRT or probably a little Parsons when this ones time is up.

I noticed that too. I've had pure bred Jacks for many years and a lot of the dogs in this video are crosses. Pure Jacks have a very specific look.

They can be escape artists so they need good fencing and maybe a platform they can climb on to so they can see what is happening outside the yard. We had one ans she was super energetic

My beloved Jack Russell had to be put to sleep three months ago. She made it to 17yrs, and brought us so much happiness. They are gorgeous, sweet, playful and unbelievably intelligent dogs, but do the breed research. If they don't get a good zoom in at least a couple of times a day, they will eat your house for something to do. It's like they have a spring in there thst winds tighter and tighter, and they absolutely have to run it off and unwind it. They are stubborn little clowns and if you have the energy (or in my case a hyper 5 year old lol) they are wonderful, very loyal and sweet tempered. They just hate being bored and tend to regard commands as suggestions. If you have the patience and energy, you couldn't ask for better.

We have a one. My 2 boys now 15 & almost 8 fell in love with in minutes of meeting him. He's been with us for 4 years now. He can be very sweet, beyond energetic, they can also be very sneaky and very stubborn. But they are good protectors I know they are small but if there is something outside or someone(had someone break in my garage & the dog scared them off) they hear it and make sure you know it especially if you have kids I've noticed that our dog really watches out for my 2 boys. Our dog isn't mean but doesn't like to back down. He doesn't run away anymore but he used to take off out the front door every chance he got. I can sum up our Jack Jack in one word Special lol. Take that how you want. Just be sure you or your kids like to walk a dog these dogs are beyond energetic and go crazy if they don't get out at least some of that energy

Our JRT is special. We built a berm in our living room out of cardboard covered with an old sheet. The living room is only 10 feet wide but it's longer and tapers into a hallway. His ZOOMIES couldn't make top speed before... Now, omg 5X in a minute around and around. Then he will come poke me with his nose to tell we he was warmed up and ready for his walk

My JRT is a little over 2 years old and he can be a little pain in the ass. He forgets he is a small dog and has to play with the big ones. In fact, the bigger they are, the more he bothers them until they play with him or put him in his place. And he loooooves to run with greyhounds, it's so funny seeing him trying to catch them and barking after them because they are too fast lol But it's a type of dog I wouldn't recommend to everyone, they need a lot of exercise and they need owners that know about dogs, because they are very intelligent and stubborn.

We took one in from someone to save it from the pound and didn't know much about them. Thankfully, we have a big fenced in yard. LOL All he does is dig, run, and chew on tree branches that I give him. Gotta teach him about the barking though 😆😆 And he run much faster than our Rottweiler Lab mix.

I plan on buying a Jack Russell soon but I am wondering if they can be adaptable to apartments or only homes with a yard since they're hunting dogs and known to be able to run fast. I have heard some people say they are ok for apartments as long as these dogs are taken for walks every day and allowed to play and be sociable with other dogs and people. I have also heard they're absolutely not meant for apartments.Has anyone hear lived in an apartment with a Jack Russell? And what was the experience like?

i have a dog that's very similar, she loves digging, she has extremely buff hind legs, loves catching rats since we live near a field, she is the same coat of full tan and white paws, i rescued her when me and my brother were walking near the field and found her and her relative, a black dog the same size as her. we gave the black dog to another family that has a huge home and spacious farm field that she will enjoy and kept the tan one we now call jackie because she resembles jackie chan because of her high jumps and powerful legs. i believe she is part jack russell but i'm not sure since i've never done a dna test on her, with all these characteristics do you think my dog is a jack russell or at least part?

they are a hand full if not train right They train you they are one step a head of you . but loving dogs and they bond to you . and the bond will never leave you if another dog looks at you the little JR will stand their ground ill give them that and nine times out of ten they win the like little pit bulls fight anything to save you . Tara Al Atrash I've found that JRT's are very loyal and protective of their homes. So I would say that they make great guard dogs. My dog likes to look out the window and will bark at the odd stranger that walks past. And the closer the stranger is to the house, the more aggressive his bark can become. As long as I am with the dog when a stranger comes into my house (eg. a trades person etc) then my dog can be very friendly towards them. But I'd hate to imagine how my dog would be towards a stranger who came into my house when I'm not home. My JRT can be a feisty little thing when he wants to. And I wouldn't be surprised if he gave an intruder a nasty bite too hehe

The best training tool I've ever found (to correct bad behavior) is a little spray bottle filled with 1:1 ratio of water & vinegar. I only had to use it once, careful not to get it in his eyes. He hates the smell. Now all I have to do is show him the bottle. It really got his barking under control.

L can say this little lad 5 year old and he my little slave he get my shoes he get my slipper he gets letter he gets me walking stink even he food bowl I can say to him give me a sweet Skip and he give me one out of his food bowl. Why needs a service dog at the age of 65yro not me I got him. when I was younger I had all sorts of dog but iv got too say this little feller beats the lot of them. I wish I new how to put a video on here and show people just how smart JRT are. ever thing iv train him it only tuck three or four times and he does it. or am I get old and dogs are getting smarter.
