Great show, better than any hunting show out there now! I still wear a old Barbour coat when I bird hunt (one of the reasons they originally made them) and I loved seeing these guys pushing through the hedgerows and fields.

Modest, respectful, appreciative, thankful. That's what a days fieldsports means to me too and how lovely to see it in a man of Jacks fame and stature. A true countryman. Rest easy Sir.

How fortunate for us in the United States that we still have some shows about hunting. More are to be found on the internet these days, but it is still wonderful to see old shows like this from the better days in the UK. We have our own 'Continental Shoots' over here, but they are not publicized widely because of the Antis. I may not go along with the idea of a 500 bird Pheasant shoot, but meeting with other people with different viewpoints, talking to others from all walks of life, and sharing a pastime that we all love would be great for me. The get together before the hunt and mingling with the crowd. The lunch break with canapes and champagne, and talking about the shots you made and missed. Talking with your guide/loader about the day and how he feels about how things are going in his land. Alas, I have waited too long to sample these wonderful things. The cost of a hunt, even a rough shoot, has gone through the roof. The ticket for airline passage is bad enough but then I find that it is 600 pounds for ONE day in the heather. I am also 63 and my reflexes have slowed dramatically. I do finally own 4 double guns, but they are nothing to brag about. I would be looked down upon as a cheap American, trying to cheapen your sport. And I have no tweed or Burberry to wear. Wish I would have been able to go there in the 80s.

I Love these vintage hunting shows! I was fortunate to grow up in the countryside hunting game with some great hunting mentors. Lots of great memories. I spend as much time as possible getting youngsters involved in traditional hunting. Sadly many will never get the chance to experience it.

This is my favourite of all the series, and of all the field sports films I’ve seen. Mainly because it brings back so many wonderful memories of rough shooting with friends and most of all my father in law, a real old fashioned countryman!.

I remember this classic series too it was on around the same time as Sir Michael Hordern's excellent series Rod & Line. Jack Charlton is just the kind of chap you want to shoot with ; friendly, modest and always respectful of the countryside and its bounty - oh and a World Cup winner in his spare time! Thank you so much for posting!

Fantastic great watching these programs again. Gets you going to start as the season opens. We are a band of brothers who love and respect the game we are privileged to harvest in our little rough shoots.

I remember this from the 80's, never missed an episode. Couldn't wait for the Pigeon Shooting one, watched them all with my Dad, a hardened keeper all his life, "load of rubbish" he used to say after each episode just to wind me up!!

I think antis and the thick people who leave their nasty comments are so detached from nature they think the countryside is like the animals of farthing wood.let people who work the land and environment to care for it and stay in your polluting city's

I think it got stopped then though due to complaints, it was about the time the dogooders started coming in

Believe me, although it’s many years ago since I last did it, this is hard work ! You walk miles in a day and have to lug back all you shoot which is very tiring by the end of the day. As Jack said you have to a good dog/dogs or it’s very hard. I didn’t and I spent half my day trying to find what I’d shot !! RIP Jack

Excellent series Jacks Game, along with Out of Town and Old Country. Pastimes completely ruined today by ignorant objectors and do gooders, without the slightest understanding of the subject.

what a bunch of noisy buggers they would likely have got twice as much on the first drive if they had kept the noise down. call your dog back on the whistle not at the top of your voice. The human voice is the best way to scare off game fact
@wolfthequarrelsome5042 ай бұрын
4Shot and fished in Ireland for 35 years. Eventually trained setters and retrievers (sometimes the same dog) to whistle and hand signals only. No voice commands.
