a legend the Great Bert Gripton i spent many a weekend at berts cottage as a youth and had the pleasure of owning a few pups of his best terriers he was a good friend of my dads and came most Sundays for his dinner they were the good old days when you could walk down the road spade in one hand and a dog in the other and no one would bat an eyelid. old Bert knew every fox set in the Telford area lol it makes me smile every time I think of Bert I had some great times out and about with him and my dad id be sat in the back of Bert's minivan with the dogs and they would be in the front talking dogs arguing which were best jacks or Patterdales old Bert didn't like hard terriers. I went to a show in the lake district with him when he was judging the terrier class I had a brilliant day out this video brings back so many fond memories to many to mention of times gone by thank you.

Yeah it's sad how so many people think of a man with terriers as some evil badger baiting killer these days. I really miss going out early weekend mornings with terriers walking over the land. If someone saw you with a couple of terriers and a shovel these days, good chance the police would be getting called.

@@mattgosling2657 The problem is that the terrier world is now full of egos and badger baiters. Full of chavs that think it's macho to watch a terrier fight a badger to death and boast of the gameness and that their terriers are missing jaws and limbs from conflicts with them. There's not many respectful people around like Bert that have respect for the countryside. It's all turned into wankers and egos. The true terrierman for the most part is gone and with him the respect for quarry and the countryside is gone too. It's a shame.

Brian, if you like terriers, terrier work or any type of hunting you really wouldn't have liked Drabble. I don't wish to be rude Brian, but he was against a lot of the field sports. Bert Gripton actually caught him the badgers that Drabble released upon his nature reserve. He was a 2 faced hypocrite!

Hello Celtic Morning, hoping you are are okay. You're correct about "Phil Drabble and the person he was. He was a somewhat repugnant character and certainly no friend of the Terrier man or the true hunting folk. He also did everything within his power to destroy "Otter hunting!"It wasn't down to the Otter hunters and the Otters decline, but rather pollution and lost suitable habitat. The Otter hunters preserved the Otters and they had the Otters interest at heart despite the untruths often told by the anti-hunting fraternity. Lies, lies and more lies, so typical of the (antis.) "I've never met one yet who didn't tell lies and Phil Drabble was no different, just driven by money and fame. "In fact it was Bert who taught Drabble so much, especially about Badgers .Then the brute took the credit!

For me a wirehaired Russel is a good dog but there’s so many other factors than just tat. But I can still have the best blood breed in the country but like so many huntin companions it’s all down to the man tats trained the dog tats were a lot over look I know I’d try get to know the owner before I’ve even seen his dogs if I wanna to buy or to breed (very hard to get good blood nowadays)great video I’d love to see more of how the grandson is doing nowadAys as I tink the grandad nite not still be wit us .....
