@@josephburney2283only a little bit though. This song is forever attached to the first pretty girl i ever had the balls to make out with when i was 16. Ive done alot of drugs since then, and nothing was as intoxicating as that feeling of uncontrolled puppy love. Its a strange world we live in when feelings become stronger than narcotics.

@@Ch4rlz_ThA_Princ3It's 3am. I have insomnia. Just listening & reading comments, and wanted to say, yours is really beautiful & made me smile. Thank you for putting positivity out there! Music is so powerful. What drug can make you have that same rush of good feelings, 5, 10, 20 years later? (Maybe acid? 😉 JK!) I think of certain songs as a soundtrack to my life. Dark Blue is mine & my sons song. 💙 I don't know you but I wish you the best! Keep being positive! It's rare to see these days.

As I watch this, I can't help but think it represents relationships. Everyone starts off together, very attached, full of energy, and they make it look easy. As time goes on, people drop out, either together or one just can't keep going, despite their partner holding on. Some couples drop out faster, easier than others, but in the end the couples either keep staying together, out of shear faith, while others despite not being perfect dancers, the perfect pair, actually choose to take the plunge.

I took the words more literally. The song is making a beautiful sense of a disaster where the whole world is ending. Dark blue is representing the water that has ingulfed the whole city and death is inevitable but the narrator is looking at the wonderful memories that he made with his significant other and rather than panic he looks at the brighter side of things. Nobody would ever think the water above them that there drowning in is a "perfect shade of dark blue" unless you change perspectives

To me, this video represents how a lot of relationships start off as: fun and exciting, but after being with that person a while, you realize that he/she is not the one. Only a few relationships are meant to last, while a lot of them break down. The hard part is whether the couple has enough strength to fight through those problems and if they do, then they'll go off in their own world together, while leaving their past hardships and pain behind.

When I'm here with you I said the world could be burning, burning down Dark blue, dark blue Have you ever been alone in a crowded room? Well I'm here with you I said the world could be burning 'Til there's nothing but Dark blue, dark blue This flood This flood is slowly rising up Swallowing the ground Beneath my feet Tell me how anybody thinks Under this condition So I'll swim I'll swim As the water rises up Sun is sinking down And now all I can see Are the planets in a row Suggesting it's best that I Slow down This night's a perfect shade of Dark blue, dark blue Have you ever been alone in a crowded room? When I'm here with you I said the world could be burning, burning down Dark blue, dark blue Have you ever been alone in a crowded room? Well I'm here with you I said the world could be burning Dark blue We were boxing We were boxing the stars We were boxing You were swinging for mars And then the water reached the west coast And took the power lines, the power lines And it was me and you And the whole town under water There was nothing we could do It was dark blue Dark blue, dark blue Have you ever been alone in a crowded room? When I'm here with you I said the world could be burning, burning down Dark blue Have you ever been alone in a crowded room? Well I'm here with you I said the world could be burning Now there's nothing but Dark blue If you've ever been alone You'll know Dark Blue If you"ve ever been alone You'll know You'll know

"I have you breathing down my neck, I don't know what you could possibly expect under this condition" Singer has someone who is obsessed with him in some form. He wonders "what does she expect from me??" "I'll wait for the ambulance to come pick us up off the floor. What did you possibly expect under this condition?" Singer ignored the fact that he didn't have feelings for her, but decided to try it out anyway. It didn't go well at all. He wonders, this time asking HIMSELF "she was obsessed with me, but that was it. what did i honestly expect out of this??" "This night's the perfect shade of dark blue. Have you ever been alone in a crowded room while I'm here with you? The world could be burning until there's nothing but dark blue" He's starting to realize that the clinginess/obsession was because of a chronic darkness inside this girl. Even when they were together, she was surrounded by this dark blue. He's realizing that she feels nothing for him and it's a darkness. "This flood is slowly rising up, swallowing the ground beneath my feet. Tell me how anyone thinks under this condition." He's feeling overwhelmed by all of the sadness that this girl is starting to show. Her depression/obsession is starting to get to a level that he doesn't feel he can deal with. He asks "how the fuck does anyone even deal with this?" "I'll swim as the water rises up, sun is sinking down, and now all I can see are the planets in a row, suggesting it's best that I slow down" I think the singer is starting to feel like he's getting more involved in this than he should be. He still has the initial feelings of "let's give this a try" but he is slowly starting to get overcome by the depression inside of this girl, until he finally sees that he needs to just stop. this isn't something that he can fix. "We were boxing the stars. You were swinging for miles. Then the water reached the west coast. And took the power lines. It was me and you, and the whole town underwater. There was nothing we could do. It was dark blue." He feels like he was essentially fighting against fate to stay with this girl. Fighting the stars sounds like they were doing everything to try to fight against the signs that they should not stay together. The problems between them became so insurmountable that he describes it as the entire world getting flooded, and the only thing remaining is a darkness. He feels completely helpess to everything that is happening. "If you've ever been alone, you know" I lived this. This is my story. And I've been alone ever since.

I disagree. I don't think this song in any way hints that "the girl" he is singing about is depressed and obsessed with him and they are engaging in an unrequited love. Yes, "blue" can be representative of depression, i.e. the phrase "feeling blue," but I don't think that's what it means here. In this case, I think he is specifically talking about feeling overwhelmed and the concept of "blue" is representative of his overwhelming feelings as a whole: he first talks about his lover "breathing down his neck" (i.e. him feeling pressured) and him not being able to "think clearly" because of it. Then talks about a "flood" overtaking them and the town, and later trying to "box the stars"- both of these are indicative of him feeling stressed out and overwhelmed by trying to tackle larger-than-life events. He is equating the maintenance of his relationship to a nearly impossible feat. But I think he is also trying to convince himself to "slow down" and not get caught up in the anxiety of having the perfect relationship- and instead, rather to take pleasure in the details, like the "perfect shade of dark blue" that the sky is, the flood waters, etc. "The planets in a row" suggests that he thinks the relationship is fated in some kind of way or at least he recognizes that he is in a good relationship and to just enjoy it. He is reminding himself that while he may be stressed out and overwhelmed trying to maintain this "awesome" relationship, at least they have each other, that neither of them are alone anymore and not to allow himself to be engulfed by that feeling. That's what I think this song is about. And I think that's what they are demonstrating with the video as well to some extent. All the couples are struggling to stay together and not become overwhelmed by how exhausting it can be to maintain a place in the contest, which is meant to be symbolic of how enduring their relationship truly is.
