@@markhamhayseed3709 I think that you misunderstood me. I was replying only to @awsomeo1979's sarcastic "Yeah that happened." I agree that this happened; "r/nothingeverhappens" is a reference to a subreddit that mocks Internet users who assume, like @awsomeo1979, that a plausible situation, such as @pippass9005's, never happened for no apparent reason. In other words, the "nothing ever happens" is sarcasm to match the baseless assumption (i.e., "yeah that happened" here) that this could not have possibly happened. Fun fact: The band confirmed the story of the music video. The man suffers from terrible agoraphobia and social anxiety. He's very lonely and every day he looks through his telescope to watch people interact and takes down notes on how to socialize. He tries going out several times but is too scared and ends up changing his mind. He then has a breakdown from the isolation. Eventually he has enough and at the end he musters up the courage to leave his roof and goes out to see the world and try to make himself happy

Another fact: John Rzeznik was terribly depressed by that time, so he wasn't able to write or compose anything. And this song was a relief.

Reading through the comments, listening to this song and remembering the late 90s and early 2000s has made me realize that we are the first generation to grow old together in real time. Though millions of us have never met, from city to the boondocks, somehow we all share similar experiences and nostalgia. I imagine once we become elderly we will all still be sitting in these very comment sections reminiscing about 1998.

If I could choose just one song to carry with me through life, it would be 'Iris.' I first heard it in grade school when my older sister played the City of Angels OST on cassette. That moment marked the beginning of a deep connection with the song. Its haunting melodies and heartfelt lyrics resonated with me in a way I couldn't fully understand back then. Since that day, it has remained a constant presence in my playlist, weaving its way through my memories and emotions. This song is Satanic plain and simple. It is a song about the singer wanting a spirit to enter himself as he says "and I don't want the world to see me as I don't think that they'd understand" why is it that he doesn't want the world to see him???? Please don't tell me you think this was a lyric about a woman lol you'd want the world to know you thought about your girl right??? He is talking about wanting to be possessed and that he knows sooner or later it's over (his life once the spirit is done with him).....it's a dark evil song made to hide in plain sight. Sorry but things aren't what they seem. But carry on.
@YBTMH2 жыл бұрын
Also, he keeps looking through the one eyed lense of the telescope.....one eye is showing one eyes is looking through into "space" notice also that there are no women in this video......because again he is NOT talking about a woman or love he is talking about the spirit he is trying to summon via this song. He is telling you who is talking to and what he is apart of via the imagery in the video. Wake up.

The song was written for the movie the City of Angels. An angel must jump off a building to bleed to make himself alive to be with a woman that couldn't truly see him until then. So in that case the songs true meaning is that an infinite and protected nothing is worth less than a short emotional something. I think whats great about this song though is not knowing what it is about. I hadn't learned why John wrote this until recently, and its helped me for so long before then. It can carry so many touching emotional meanings that are so helpful to so many of us.

Nostalgia is such a bitter sweet feeling. Hearing this song makes me long for my childhood but it still stings how I’ll never get those days back. Perhaps we can one day find it again through our childrens happy moments.

My sister would play this song all the time 9 years ago. 2 years ago she died from cancer. She wanted me to play this at her funeral. I did. We will miss you Izzy. I loved growing up with you. I just want to eat one more bowl of ramen with her. I just want to listen to this with her. I just wish I could see her again. Fly high Izzy. I’ll always love you. Thank you for saving my life. Thank you for giving me my life. Thank you for everything. Fly high big sister. ❤️

The opening line still hits after listening hundred of times, "..And I'd give up forever to touch you, cause I know that you feel me somehow". One of my favorite lines in a song ever, even though I've never met anyone to relate to it with.
