Good line, but my favorite is "you've got to swim, don't let yourself sink, just find the horizon, I promise you, it's not as far as you think." So often when we are depressed, we, for whatever reason, want to stay depressed and often resist other people's attempts to make us feel better. The key is to just focus on small victories, just making it through one day at a time and focusing on the positive and little by little, the world starts to not seem so dark anymore.

My friends stared singing this song at the funeral of an 18 year old boy a few years ago. We were all so moved everybody started holding hands and singing along with them. They had tears streaming down their faces the whole time but the lyrics were so touching. We all cried and held hands and just sang. I will never forget it. I have been listening to Jack’s Mannequin, Something Corporate and Andrews music for years. 6 years ago we went to one of Andrews shows, my now wife and I swabbed ourselves and signed up to be bone marrow donors. 4 years later my son needed a bone marrow transplant for a rare bone marrow failure. I was his match. He has been through a lot. But, he is learning to swim. This whole process is hard, a lot of what you go through is never properly explained to you. May everyone who goes through it have strength to keep swimming.

I was diagnosed with ALL in 2007 and just recently finished chemo. I discovered "Swim," and that Andrew McMahon had written it while in the hospital being treated for ALL, about halfway through my treatment. To say I feel a direct connection to it would be a gross understatement. I listened to "Swim" constantly, every time I went to the hospital, every time the pain seemed intolerable, every time I wondered if I was actually strong enough to survive. It's amazing.

This song is very dear to me. I will explain. This song is very adaptable to many life problems. My husband is in the Submarine force in the USN. Strangely these lyrics are very close to what he and I went through on a deployment.
