best Jack Straw ever... and I've listened to hundreds of 'em
@gingerli58206 жыл бұрын
I finally managed to graduate from Cornell in 5/77 although I was class of '75 - and this was the last event I attended before I left. It was such a memorable concert because it was so clear and pristine - the acoustics were the best Barton Hall ever produced.

love Jack Straw it is a song you know you are going to hear at a concert just like Bertha or Good Lovin so love them or hate them they are a staple GD song and I love them all, but with a terrapin mixed in on a whim it makes life not so predictable!🎶

Chase, been meaning forever to sign up on You Tube primarily to thank you for all the great stuff you upload. Saw most of my Dead shows from the summer of 76 through 83 or so . I rarely stray past 78 when streaming shows and spend a lot of time in the 60s but regardless I know if I see your name whatever the year the offering is worth taking. Dropped my comment under this one because it's a rare time when I'd call a particular version of a tune "best ever" , this Jack Straw is transcendent and as usual your post is from the fullest version on the IA , again thank you.

Love myself some Jack Straw. I put together all the shows that began with Jack Straw in Set I and it definitely sets a tone. Cold Rain & Snow is another favorite in the lead off position. Damn if Jerry always mixed up his two solo lines every time.

So I was waiting to get into this show. It was about noon - one o'clock and this dude comes up to me and says he's from the Cornell Concert Commission and asks if I'd like to get inside early. I said what do I have to do? And he says just give me your ticket and then go stand by that little side door over there at four o'clock and I'll get you inside. Well stupid as it sounds I actually trusted the guy and gave him my ticket to the show. Well you know what? He was sincere and he did get me in early, and I was the first one to enter the arena that night. I set myself in the center of the barricade right between Bobby and Jerry's mics and stayed right there for the entire show, tripping my ya-ya's out. I even had a conversation with Weir before the second set started. You can hear his side of the conversation on the CD. It's before Scarlet Begonias right after the Step-Back. Weir asks the crowd "there, don't you feel better?" Well we were being crushed worse than ever after the Step-Back and when I heard people behind me start to cheer I shouted out "NO"! Weir looked at me and said "Whataya mean no?"
