London police, while limited by forensic techniques of the period, didn't prioritize homicides when sex workers were involved. I suspect that the media induced frenzy put investigators on the hot-seat. The Robert 'Willie' Pickton case is a modern example of police turning a blind eye to missing sex workers. Now that I think about the two cases, Jack left his victims in the open. Willie fed his victims to his pigs. A body out in the open is more likely to attract a serious investigation. I wonder if the manhunt for Jack would have ever taken place if his victims were never found.... Food for thought.

For me the line that hit the hardest is "I don't mind that you're naughty, Jack. I hate that you're sloppy." Acknowledging he's real and he's accomplished but his methods are pathetic and not worthy of respect. It's chilling. Almost as if Hannibal is saying "you've got the spirit to be a true serial killer but you're an absolute pig about it. Clean up your act and try again" he commands control of the rap from the second he dissects Jack's first verse. He plays on Jack's insecurities and determines his response in the second round ("I'm real!") And gets Jack to start trying to 1-up other mass killers leading into the final verse where he can break jack down before finally going into a proper boast verse of his own and ending the battle as if it were just another appointment.

a prevailing theory among ripper historians is that jack might have been HH holmes, america's first serial killer. he did have the knowledge and the means do it. plus, the timelines between when he was active in america and when the murders in londan do kind of match up. but like i said, it's pretty much a theory. but the main reason why jack got away was due to police lacking any real evidence. at the time, anyone with a knife was suspected of being jack, from doctors, barbers, butchers, etc. and sadly, the jewish population at the time was blamed as well. so it wasn't so much that jack was a genius and more the police really didn't know what to do or how to proceed.

Jack the Ripper is highly suspected to be a Walter Sickert. He was a Victorian artist. A defect in Sickert's penis, coupled with his failure to procreate from any of his three marriages and numerous affairs, turned him into a serial killer. The telling evidence is in Sickert's paintings. They look very similar to crime scene descriptions that only the police would know about. The paintings were of women being disemboweled and other states of murder that look very similar to crime scenes. The interesting tidbit from witnesses speaking about this artist was "he could never draw or paint anything he didn't see first in real life" (paraphrasing).
