One of my favorite art discussions with one of my favorite painters and biggest influences in abstract painting. Jack Whitten has a depth and an honesty which is evident every time you hear him speak. The same is true when you look at his paintings. The Cosmic Soul is to this day my favorite art book. Jack Whitten is one of the greatest painters of the 20th & 21st centuries, though still not brought up in a lot of the publications on modern and contemporary art, which is something I hope continues to change. His words would be of tremendous benefit for the ears of any artist as much as his work would bring wonder to any eyes that are willing to look. Truly a force who continues to inspire me daily. On behalf of all artists, thank you Jack Whitten for all that you brought to the world art and the realm of soul space. You are missed by many. I highly recommend COSMIC SOUL by Richard Schiff to any who would like to learn more about a mentor and a continual source of inspiration for my artistic pursuits. RIP Jack Whitten and "long live painting!"

Fascinating and humorous artist who despite obstacles has carved out his own lane in the art world and in life. I'm very inspired by him and his body of work. Sad that after recently seeing his work on exhibit at the Met Museum I searched him up to learn that he passed away earlier this year. R.i.p. to you Mr. Whitten, may your colorful soul fly free and your work live on in us

His words, “we are all primitives” in reference to the relative knowledge of technology has changed my view on the world completely. Thank you Mr. Whitten for all the amazing and challenging work you have done!!

Love this man. New to his work. Keep the best wine till last, is the only way I can explain my late discovery of him. Even in this "information" age, up until now, he was invisible.

I wonder if there are books of Jack Whitten's artwork. Amazing work.

Is the guy serious I’m 25 mins in and Jack Whitten has not said anything. Such a white male thing to do!

The interviewer said at the outset that he decided to write out his comments and read them because otherwise he would go on too long. Whitten hough could give as well as he could take thank god.
