The height is a compromise as to be expected, but the plus side I find is extra stealth and wind resistance. Underrated tent and definitely keeping I the collection. Thanks for sharing

I love this tent! Only issue, is it is a bit of a faff getting in and out. Other than that, it’s a great little tent which is more roomy than it initially looks.
@TheWalkingKev2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, first time getting in I went in head first with feet out the door... Then realised I couldn't physically turn around to get my legs in! But yeah, once you're in its roomier than you'd think and rock solid. Great little tent.

This is a very well rounded and wise review. You identify the tents distunguishing features and explain the choices made and how they effect usage indicating a wish to provide genuine value to the viewer. I have the gossamer 2 bought new few months ago and agree with a point you made that is normaly over looked in the reviews if this tent: that 100% mesh inner means the tent is vulnerable to the cold of hill winds. This makes for a great logical conundrum with the gassamer 2: you choose it for its rain and wind strength needed for winter and alpine use, but it is unsuited to the wind chill that characterise those conditions. I only have the gossamer 2 and this may be less a problem with the lower and smaller gossamer 1. The only point I thought missed was people choose the gossamer for a tent floor that is twice the thickness and waterproofing that is typical in tents. So floor safety. Thanks for posting.
@TheWalkingKev2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I've not used it in cold conditions yet, but I've seen others using it year round. The bathtub floor is extremely robust and waterproof. For the money I don't know a tougher, better specified shelter.

I’ve watched so many videos and done so much research into hooped bivvis. Ideally I would prefer a small tent but living in Kent which is fairly populated I wanted something more stealthy and faster setup. I intend to bring my large dog this seems like the largest of the one man bivvis out there regarding floor space, so should be able to squeeze in for both of us, plus it seems really decent quality at a decent price. Thanks for the review

It's surprisingly spacious, but not easy to get in and out of and obviously very low. But it's strong, stealthy and feels bombproof. Thanks for commenting, really appreciate it.

Yes, certainly a new type of tent for me, the width makes it not feel claustrophobic for me thankfully. What was it like pitching on Mynydd Llangorse? I'd been thinking about camping there...
@thevalleywalker2 жыл бұрын
@@TheWalkingKev Lots of heather up there so can be like a sponge in places but lots of places to pitch up there and great views of Llangorse lakes , Blacks and the main peaks in the distance. You can park on the Bwlch between Llangorse & Mynydd Troed & it's a short sharp walk up onto the hill.

Jack Wolfskin Gossamer 1 tent exists in both inner pitch and outer pitch variants. I own one of each. The outer pitch variant has the flysheet permanently attached with factory stitching to the larger pole sleeve on the inner which allows the flysheet to be folded over from the foot of the tent for ventilation in warm weather. However the flysheet cannot be detached from the inner. The inner pitch variant tent is as shown in this video. Note - A footprint is available for the Gossamer 1 tent which provides added groundsheet protection. This tent is an extremely robust tent which will withstand the harshest of environments within the uk.
@TheWalkingKev2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing, I didn't know it came in two variants. I like the idea of just pitching the inner though.

@@TheWalkingKev Another under rated low cost sub £100 tent worth a look is the Robens Arrow Head. Advantage with the Robens Arrow Head over the JW Gossamer 1 is side entrance and more head room with undercover area for storage and cooking. I prefer pole sleeves to plastic clips. This tent is outer pitch with pole sleeves and wind tested by Robens to 165km/hr. So its JW Gossamer 1 for stealth and Robens Arrow Head for comfort. Both are small double pole tunnel tents.

Good review Kev. Got mine of ebay, went for the older version with the black mesh so not quite so visalble with the door fully open. A good cheap you might want to have a look at is the Vango Cairngorm 1 got one for £50 great tent for the money.

Cheers Lee. Yes, this is certainly a low tent, but it inspires confidence in bad weather. I've not used the OEX Phoxx 2, but I've got a couple of similar tents and they certainly offer some useful extra headroom - and are easier to get in and out of as well.

It's fine. The all mesh inner gives it plenty of airflow and it's more spacious than it looks. In summer you can just use the inner or you can have the outer pulled back to give you more airflow.
