@@alicemelin2553 It was a combination of not enjoying reading about a gaggle of kids, and Britt-Marie being kinda horrible to everyone she encounters. It's why I've avoided A Man Called Ove, too - curmudgeon characters don't really appeal to me. Cancel Reply

The virgin suicides is one of those few pieces of litterature with a movie adaptation that is better than the book itself in my opinion. Its just too stunning
@jeepersfred6796

disagree. that movie fell into the trap of perpetuating what the book was trying to critique. people lust after the book for its manic pixie dream girl aesthetics and that’s it’s legacy.

@@jeepersfred6796 i totally agree with you about that but its just that the artistic side of the movie touched my heart deeply as someone who loves visual arts . I guess i prefer the way that the story is told by the movie . Its just my opinion 😁

Atonement by Ian McEwan is definitely up your alley. It's such a beautiful story about love, betrayal and the role of narration and narrators in people's lives. Don't look it up too much before reading it, if you ever read it. There's a huge twist and it'll leave you speechless and heartbroken.

"The Trial" is a RIDE. I read it immediately after The Metamorphosis, and then watched The Trial film, as well. It's genuinely not a bad adaptation, really did capture that typical Kafka vibe; at once both unsettling and familiar.

virgin suicides is incredible! absolutely formative book and film for me and all my (female) friends aged 16/17, really captures the feeling of being a teenage girl and the tragedy of your youth/femininity being idolised to the point of dehumanisation and isolation. the decision to narrate the boys instead of the girls is pure genius. really hope you love it, or at least see why it is so special to so many women!!
