I've just finished 'Stoner' by John Williams and I am genuinely surprised by how much I loved it. It's a book that exceptionally navigates the ways in which ordinary people grapple with the presence of absence and the ways in which they attempt to carve meaning in their lives. It's a book that exists in the shadow of a stoic silence as it explores the passion keeping a life ignited and the loneliness that manages to creep and settle into one's bones while doing so.

Ooh, the Selma Lagerlof book should be really good. One of her stories called The Christmas Rose is in the Penguin Book of Christmas Stories clothbound classic, and it's my standout favourite from the first half of the collection that I've read so far over the last 2 years - I even took it round my friends house to read it out loud to them last week. I imagine her other writing is just as wonderful. I hope you enjoy x

Hi Jack! I love your content, but I'm also having a request. I've always been a really slow reader and I am also a super busy person which leaves me almost no time to read. I watch my tbr list grow longer and longer but I'm afraid it's just unrealistic for me to read all these books before I retire. Could you maybe do a video about books you think someone with little time on their hands should absolutely read? Just a small collection of "Everybody should've read that". Maybe also books who won't take someone busy 3-4 months to finish (which is for me 1000 pages approx). I'd love to see something like this. Keep up the good content and have a beautiful Christmas!

The three books I'm hoping to finish before the end of the year are 'After Sappho' by Selby Wynn Schwartz, 'dd's umbrella' by Hwang Jungeun and 'Biography of X' by Catherine Lacey! I also have audiobooks going for 'Rejections' by Tony Tulathimutte and 'The Centre' by Ayesha Manazar Siddiqi, so I'm hoping to finish those before the end of the year as well. I am currently reading Selma Lagerlöfs book "Gösta Berlings saga", as it is called here in Sweden. I suppose it could be translated into "the saga/story of Gösta Berling" I'm reading it for my litteraturescience programme at uni. I also have three other books I need to finish after that, Bram Stokers Dracula, Brontës Jane Eyre and "Drottningens juvelsmycke" by Carl Jonas Love Almqvist. We're reading alot of different books published during the romance era, different novels from different genres, such as adventure novels, picaresc novels and bildungs novels. (Unsure if I've spelled or translated them to english correctly. 😅) So I've already finished two books for this and still have all of these left now. Is there no way to stop youtube from automatically translating the audio (and saying the original is "english (USA)" ) ? automatically translating the titles of the videos ? (I assume they do that especially in December to boost their ad revenue? I use an adblocker cause it's ******* impossible to enjoy this website otherwise)

Have been so busy I haven’t been able to get through the book I’m currently reading “Kiss Her once for Me” then I hope to read (before Christmas 🤦🏻‍♀️) The story of Santa Clause by L Frank Baum

Hello Jack, I hope you're doing well. I was wondering if you could provide information or create a video about the book banning that's supposed to take place in America in January. As a well-known booktuber, I thought you might be able to shed some light on this situation.

The pumpkin cafe book is single handedly the worst written book I’ve ever read. It’s absolute nonsense and I hated every character
