Tulsi Gabbard is a former Congresswoman, veteran, 2020 presidential candidate, and host of the new society and culture podcast, The Tulsi Gabbard Show: www.tulsigabbard.com/podcast/
Tulsi served Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013-2021. During her time in office, she served on the Homeland Security Committee, the Armed Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Financial Services Committee. From 2013-2016, Tulsi served as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee. In 2019, she launched her 2020 presidential campaign, becoming the first female combat veteran to run for president.
This October, Tulsi announced her departure from the Democrat Party.
Tulsi enlisted in the Hawaii Army National Guard in 2003. In 2004, she deployed for a year-long tour to Iraq where she served as a medical specialist. After graduating from the Accelerated Officer Candidate School at the Alabama Military Academy in 2007, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. She was stationed in Kuwait from 2008 to 2009, serving as an Army Military Police Officer.
She is a recipient of the Combat Medical Badge and the Meritorious Service medal. In July 2021, she was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
Today on Danger Close, Jack and Tulsi discuss her views on the Second Amendment, Big Tech, the state of political discourse in America, cancel culture, and more.

Great interview! Great dynamic between both. Letting each other finish their sentences and moving from one topic to the next fluently! I'm glad to see Tulsi Gabbard changing/adjusting her views on 2A! We can all learn a lesson from her: inform yourself, talk to different ppl and adjust your views if the new information warrants it!👏

Very very thought provoking. Once upon a time, when I served in the Corps, it was said a Marine does not relinquish his weapon to anybody. As a soldier of Christ your life may be required of you today unselfishly. So one can do the right thing and live it out. Being free may be a right to die for it right now. Youth is such a wonderful thing to bad it’s wasted on young kids. Keep up the good work it’s all worth it.

Jack, do you believe she's truly had a change of heart on her more progressive 2A stances or is it an act? As late as 2018, in addition to numerous bills she's supported, she posted on twitter: "I’ve cosponsored bills to close the gun show loophole, ban assault weapons, require background checks on anyone seeking to purchase a gun & more" and was still pushing the progressive agenda on guns (and green energy too). I really like her, i guess what i am asking, do you think her change of heart towards conservatism is real or she just trying to find a new party to win with?

It is sad that in general people are not students of history and dont necessary conduct research and have critical thinking skills and common sense to see through political misinformation or mainstream media biased propaganda. How many people stop to think that every one that signed the declaration of independence signed their death warrant if the war was lost. Thank you for your thoughtful podcasts and your James Reece novels, not to mention your years of service in the military.

Great interview Jack. She was the Democratic party’s best candidate in 20. I wished you had asked her about her public support of Biden when he was given the nomination. Does she regret that? Does she admit that was a mistake? You have to ask the tough questions even when the interviewee is as charming as Tulsi.

Have you read Brad Taylor's new book 'End of Days'? Super good; I don't want to say to much, but it hits on some very important issues: 'sleeper cells' included. @@TheQuickest You’re certainly entitled to your mistrust. That being said, she explained why she was a dem to start her political career, and why she switched. If your default position is to assume everyone is lying and no one can have a change of heart, then so be it. But that is an incredibly myopic way to go about life. Hopefully more Americans are waking up to the fact that neither political party actually cares about the American people and the letter next to a candidates name tell you nothing about the content of their character. Most Americans I know hold a mix of beliefs. The ones that agree with their party 100% on all issues are rooting for a team rather than thinking independently about individual policy issues. As Thomas Sowell said, there are no solutions, only trade-offs. Based on our individual hierarchy of needs/values we can have honest disagreements over what trade-offs we are willing to accept, rather than painting the other side as evil. Liberals are not the enemy, conservatives are not the enemy, ideologues are the enemy. There is a reason HRC went out of her way to smear Tulsi, even though Tulsi was polling at the bottom of the pack in the primaries. It's because independent thinkers are a threat to the influence peddling duopoly running our country at the behest of the donor class.

What's critical is to have a shared mutual goal and endpoint. We need to realize that classical liberals and conservatives largely have this shared vision, just different roads to get there. The "left" (communist/socialist/progressive/fascist) is something completely different and completely incompatible with the American values of life, liberty, and property/pursuit of happiness. This cannot be tolerated and must be removed.

100:27 It's not necessarily matter of not knowing what to do: it is more a matter of 'punching the tickets'. They don't care about doing the right thing for the nation; they care about doing the right thing for their career. 101:55 I agree with Tulsi totally as it applies to U.S. military currently. However, it doesn't necessarily apply generally. One outstanding counter example is Japanese military before WW2. 102:33 I don't want to sound pedantic. I do agree with Carr mostly, except one gigantic outlier: Douglas McArthur. He should have been fired after the Clark field raid. 103:14 IJA/IJN before and during WW2. 106:52 I think there may be more than meets the eyes: Putin is no dummy. He would have anticipated correctly that MIC would have never agreed to the terms. If you skim through Alexander Dugin's works, even through wiki, his strategic advice to Putin is not to fight the West/their proxies, through conventional war, but through macroeconomic/geopolitical grand strategy. West is far superior in conventional weapons against Russia, but Russia has oil/gas, and international connections to Latin America, Africa, ME/OPEC, and Asia. Russia should try to fight like Britain had done against Napoleon, by establishing new markets, and black-market trading with EU members, a relentless war of economic attrition. Another word, Ukraine is merely a bait for the West, with MIC being unwitting accomplices, a gigantic Dien Bien Phu, with the West being the French, and Russia being Ho Chi Minh. When EU will have enough of economic depression coming, the people in EU will have enough courage to throw out the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels; EU and even NATO might dissolve. I think that is what Putin is really after. I will buy your book; How can I say no to Tulsi's recommendation?

When you were talking about Pearl Harbor my Grandfather was there and navy for 30 years. My mom was born there the year Pearl Harbor was attacked. They were both members of the Pearly Harbor survivors association. We always Remember Dec 7th the day that will live in infamy.

Key takeaways 1. I liked that Gabbard humbly changed her position on 2A. I would have liked a pointed question about the AR-15. I would have greatly appreciated an unequivocal statement; “I was wrong. Americans should be able to own weapons of war to protect their god given rights.” 2. Totally respect Gabbard on her perspective of combat leadership. Great position. 3. Light a fire in the fire place.

AR-15 is not a weapon of war, not even close. If you want to licence fully automatic weapons of war, I can listen to your opinion, but the AR-15 is not that!

@@wilfdarr My sarcasm must have been too subtle. My apologies. The dems have made the term ubiquitous whenever they move to ban them. I just wanted her to take the larger step to address this weapon specifically. But, further, it is my belief that our founding fathers intent on the 2A was specifically and exactly intended to protect weapons that can be used in a war. For them, they wanted to protect muskets, flint locks, swords and cannon.

@@sar4x474 Agreed. HOWEVER, they could not have imagined Chlorine Gas or the fact that I can readily manufacture it in my kitchen, the MG-42 at a time where the Springfield Trapdoor had yet to be invented, or nuclear weapons a century before the Wright Brothers first flight (and they certainly could have never imagined a day when individual citizens like Musk and Bezos could both afford the weapons and own vehicles capable of deploying them)! And to touch on the 1st as well, they could have never imagined the idea that corporations would have such a grip on our freedom of speech. Now in fairness I can't imagine a system that infringes my right to own weapons, nor a system that tells me what material I as a publisher must publish, but the time has come that we need to be open to the idea that the amendments were by design intended to be further amended to be synchronous with the times, and the way they are currently written simply isn't: the fact that the First amendment says “Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech,” yet all sorts of laws now exist limiting the freedom of speech, and the Second Amendment says "shall not be infringed", and yet most Americans now accept that infringement to some degree or another is acceptable or even desirable, this undermines and gravely weakens the authority of a document who's authority must be by necessity absolute! As such, the constitution's time as currently written and understood is limited: we can either negotiate and pass a compromised document that captures the realities of our time, or else we'll eventually find that the "text as informed by history", where a history of infringement and curtailment has become the norm, becomes absolutely hollow.

@@wilfdarr the "things should be banned, because they never would have imagined that it would exist" argument is beyond idiotic. With that foolish logic, you no longer have any freedom of speech, unless you use a quill pen and parchment paper. The media has no right to publish any articles, unless they use an ancient press. They were well aware that technology advances, especially in regards to weapons. So they wanted the people to be able to defend themselves. Shall not be infringed is very simple. Unfortunately, folks like you will always twist it to try to justify tyranny. Truly pathetic.

@@jonanderson4755 We no longer have real free speech SPECIFICALLY because the founding fathers could not imagine Facebook, Twitter, etc. This is specifically why we need a rethink, to return freedom of speech to the people! What we have currently IS a form of tyranny, and you're OK with it?

Really like Tulsi so I'm excited for this. I feel like she's one of those politicians that everyone can find something they agree with her on (which is incredibly rare). I have liberal, libertarian, and conservative friends that like her.

When Tulsi was still a democrat, during the’20 debates, I recognized the leadership potential she possesses! I hope she is Trump’s VP pick! Another note, that wood stove would certainly warm things up there!

It was hard to get to know Tulsi during her Presidential run, other than one minute answers she was given during the Debates. In todays political climate where if you’re not an extremist…left or right, your opinion doesn’t matter. Tulsi’s thoughtful and common sense conversation is refreshing. Great conversation…👍🇺🇸
