Just received my Jackery 1000 + 2 Solar Sagas - direct from Jackery. I’ve been on a quick learning curve since the recent and more frequent Public Safety Power Shut-offs by PG&E - here in Northern California Foothills. THANK YOU HOBOTECH for your scientific tests and educational reviews. I’m confident I made the best choice for a newbie who doesn’t know Jack-ery squat about generators, solar panels, or AMPS, Watts, or Volts for that matter. Your reviews are simple enough for a zero-knowledge student, even though they’re packed with info. I’ll be watching them several times over to glean everything. And, I plan on watching your entire story from 2016 forward because you are a fascinating character with an amazing story! I’m hooked!

Professor thank you for your demos. Because of you I bought the Jackery 1000 explorer. Two days after I received it we had a 3 day blackout here on Long Island in New York. The Jackery worked so well that I bought another one about a week later. I also have the Jackery 100w Solar Panel 3 and watched this demo for your opinions. About a month ago I knew nothing about any of this, thanks again.

Just a note. I was in northern California on the coast for 5 days, I used my Explorer 500 and SS 60. I did not set the SS60 up exactly to face the sun, I just laid it on the roof of my truck and it was putting out 44 to 47 watts. It charged the E500 from 74% to 100% in almost no time (a few hours)

Seems obvious that the glossy coating on ver. 3 is reflecting some light. Reflecting light before it hits the active part of the panel should obviously reduce efficiency. I thought that immediately before you got to the testing. Another useful test would be to leave them both outside for a month and see how they compare.

I have 2 Version 2 panels and have not had a problem with the plastic box the latches on mine seem to work fine. My only complaint with my panels is that it's so hard to open the boxes to get the cables out. My results mirrored yours for the 2nd variation around 117w here in northern CT. I placed electrical tape over the usb ports to try to mitigate dust and moisture. Glad I bought my Jackery 1000 and panels. on launch date in march with the $ 300 discount. I purchased them from the Jackery store and was not charged any tax here in CT. Also just want to give kudos to their customer service. Julie worked wonders for me with the return and replacement of the 1000.

I just bought 2 of the SolarSaga 100 watt panels from Amazon during Prime day. I hooked up the first and was delighted to see it was outputting over 85 watts under blue but hazy skies. When I tested the second panel, it output about 75 watt. Switching between the two showed similar results. The first panel was consistently 10% better. Combining the two with the Jackery connector resulted in at best about 130 watts or only about 50% more than the first panel. Are these results typical?

It's interesting to see the Ver.3, which has a glossy surface, heats up more. I would think reflection should make the surface cooler than that of the Ver. 2, which has matte finish. Maybe the coating material itself retain more heat. Thanks for the demo.

Great video. I'm testing the XTAR SP100 that looks pretty much identical to the Jackery SolarSaga 100 but I was able to get over 100w when when testing it in December in New England. I came here to see what you got for the Jackery panel for comparison and...it's really bad. I don't understand how XTAR managed to almost double the output in the same form factor with similar looking panels but it's a much better unit.

Hi Professor Hobo. I am considering cutting my Solarsaga 100w power lead midway and fitting on Anderson connectors. Then I have more flexibility to attach different connectors eg. Anderson, MC4 or just make an extension for the 8mm plug. Any reason this should or cannot be done? other than voiding any warranty. Love your channel thanks for all your work.

Cool video. Have you thought about trying the Renogy 100W Eclipse Lightweight Suitcase B07HN5R2KX? I bought 2 of them and I've seen them touch 150W in parallel on my Goal Zero Yeti 400 (AGM), midday sun in Houston. I picked up 2 100 watt suitcases on Amazon for about the price of 1 Jackery 100W. I haven't seen any decent review/comparison videos of them out there yet. So I wasn't sure if I was getting good output or not, but now compared to this video it looks like they're pretty darn good.

I used a solarsaga 100 v3 and rockpals 100 watt panel in parallel and despite each panel getting 70w when plugged in individually in parallel it would not break 119. No matter what the panels were getting individually it was always less in parallel. Is it to be expected when running in parallel there is a loss in total Watts? The trade off with Gen 3 is for sure the dust resistance - if you get +2W with v2, but v2 gets dusty, I would totally bet the v2 would drop more watts than just 2.

It appears that the ‘crinkle’ like surface on version three is slightly less efficient than the clear glass surface of version two. I just ordered a Solar Saga 100 during Jackerys current sale. Either one is the best quality product being it’s a Jackery. Their products are something old Arthur Godfrey would be proud to endorse.

With the changes included in the 100W V3 and when comparing it to the current Jackery 60W panel, which is the better unit when paired with a Jackery 500W Power Station? @@HOBOTECH Thanks! Here in Idaho, we do get some long days for charging. This last weekend, when using the fridge I did lose power in the middle of the night but at about 7300 ft elev., it did not gain much in temp (still in safe zone) and we were able to start the truck and have it cooled right back down. I am hoping this setup will allow us to have a camp day or two using the panel to extend the power station's capacity. Otherwise, yes, I'd be looking at the 1000 or a dedicated dual battery system with a solar input. I did see a couple of comparisons of the 60W vs the 100W panels, and in both reviews under the same conditions, the output was within 10Ws which made me wonder if the 100W would actually produce sufficient power difference over the 60W. I do like how small the 60W folds down for storage and I'm planning on having the panel up on my windshield, similar to how you tested it (sans the hail) during your 2019 review of that product.

You should measure the exact square footage for each panel... It looks to me like version 3 is better because it looks to me like it has slightly less surface area of cells. Just slightly less by eyeball. Measure them exactly and see if version 2 has more solar cell coverage. I know it has more lines in it, but overall it looks bigger still.

What's to stop you from cutting the cord a few inches from the panel and wiring in an anderson connector, similar to the V2 panel? I had these setup next to a pollinating tree, and got a ton of pollen caught in the grooved surface. I think the roughness makes it more tolerable to off-angle to the sun. I can leave it flat on the roof of my car for the day and sustain 60W (max input) to my Jackery 240. More than enough to sustain my Dometic CFX35 indefinitely. I bought two of these panels a few weeks ago, and I had a bit of rage at first thinking I bought outdated panels. But like you mentioned, they were shipping V3 at the time of my order. I wish they would have included that fancy adapter with my order. It would make more sense to bundle the adapter with orders of two panels rather than the Jackery 1000.

On the cables, you might look at the iGreely DC 5.5mm x 2.1mm Power Female Plug Cable with DC 8mm Adapter Compatible with Anderson Powerpole, for about $10, or the Goal Zero 8mm to Anderson 4X Combiner Cable ($30) on Amazon, or add to your store. The first is for a single unit 8mm to Anderson, while second is four 8mm into a single Anderson. The second could connect four Solarsaga together to a single Anderson, my question is would that be a series connection or parallel connection and what would be final volt and amps?

I heard somewhere that the Anderson input on the Jackery 1000 is MPPT and the 8mm input is still PDM. Maybe that's why you see a difference when testing the Solarsaga v2 and v3 by themselves?

Does the mppt controller throttle down the input watts as the explorer 300 reaches the completion of its charge cycle? I ran a test with my 300 and saga 100 v3 panel in full sunlight, bright clear day. At the start of the test my 300 was already at 98%. Initially I was pulling 65-67 watts. Within 15 minutes it was only inputting 25 watts. Within 30 minutes it was only inputting 11 watts! The 300 was at 99% by this point and the wattage input remained at 11 watts until the completion of the charge cycle. Does this seem normal?

So if I started making and marketing an adapter for these, say 8 mm to Anderson, would that make me any pocket change? Also, what if I made an adapter that took two of these panels and put them in series and had a 24 volt output? Seems a little ambition can make some Pocket Change in this situation. I'm buying my soldering station right now LOL I also wonder if there might be a market for making direct replacement lithium iron phosphate batteries for a lot of these lithium-ion packs. I've noticed that you can get the cells in the wrong now and wiring them up as a snap. I'm also looking at that jackery Explorer pack and wondering if that's a real ground, or if it's just a hole for that prong. A lot of inverters, you have to be careful how you ground things because of the way the MOSFET output bridge is constructed. It's a little unconventional how you have to wire certain loads to keep from destroying the inverter , especially when wiring Branch circuitry to distribute the power. Just a quick statement, if my grammar looks a little weird it's because I'm using voice to text and sometimes it doesn't get things quite right. It's due to my vision and this tiny phone screen. That's the only way I can get output in any reasonable time.

On the Harbor Freight 100W Solar kit, the little 2 Conductor Barrel Connector that plugs into the Charge Controller, is the Tip Positive or Negative? Why must the unit only be used with Lead-Acid Batteries? I purchased a Jackery Inverter Power Supply unit (their 100w) Solar Panels cost $300 and the Harbor Freight setup (with extra goodies) was under $200. I was going to build an adapter that goes from the Harbor Freight Barrel Connector (a Female Socket that fits it, there is a local electionics parts store) to a Female part of a Automotive Cigarette Lighter. The Jackery Cigarette Lighter Plug will hook up there to run Solar Panels to the Jackery Unit. No butchering any or the wires to either setup.

I received a refund to my card for simply asking Jackery excellent customer service for the trouble of sending my 1000 back to them. Kevin L. I realize you think you zinged me with your deep knowledge of international trade and manufacturing. I'm well aware portions of their gear is made in China. I'm also well versed in Chinese products and manufacturing. There is a difference between products made in China and sold to the world, and products designed in America and built in China to American standards. I'm surprised your great depth of Internet knowledge didn't know this. When you buy a product from Jackery, it is an AMERICAN COMPANY selling their product that is built in China. They are high quality items that are guaranteed for 2 years. If you have a problem with this, then go buy somewhere else that are 100% produced in the USA for 4x the price, if one exists. Buying from Jackery is supporting an American company, whereas their competitor such as Rockpals is strictly China. Write their support and see the broken English of the responses. Do the same with Jackery and compare the response. Honda has even partnered with them. Last I checked, Honda builds damn good products. They didn't pair with Rockpals, as one example. It's a global world. I'm sorry your actual level of knowledge on the subject is sophomoric at best. And childish at worst. Now run along and stick your foot in your mouth on another post. I'm not "lmao" at you because it isn't nice to pick on the handicap and those with low IQ. Consider yourself schooled, little guy.

That 8mm cable is the same as goal zero and others, it's about creating a ecosystem where you buy their products for their power stations. If you want universal options, get a 12v battery box and lithium battery (eg battle born in USA, solar king in Australia and other companies in other parts of the world). This combination of battery box, 12v AGM or lithium battery and solar panel is ubiquitous in Australia where these power stations are incredibly expensive compared to the separate component system

My kitchen frig is a small 19 cf Kitchenaid french door. Instinct makes me suspect I need one for kitchen frig and another larger generator for garage freezers. Susan in San Diego
