I'm aware that Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Chuck Norris, Bolo Yeung and Dan Inosanto are still alive. What I was referring to was actors from the old-school Chinese/Hong Kong movie scene era. Sammo Hung And Jackie Chan went on to have huge careers in the Hong Kong movie scene for decades after Bruce passed and are still going strong!. Jackie and Sammo took over the mantle from Bruce Lee when he passed.

There was only Bruce Lee who understood the power of the speed!!
@MrAnderson5157
@MrAnderson5157 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, in physics speed is the force. Force equals "power". Speed is the distance travelled in a set amount of time. More force will give an object greater speed. The "object" being the fist, foot, etc. The laws of physics determine that the force of impact increases with the square of the increase in speed. So, if you double the speed of a car, you increase its force of impact four times. Fact.
@MrAnderson5157
@MrAnderson5157 2 жыл бұрын
Force is the interaction between objects. Power is the rate at which work is done, or energy is transmitted. Energy transmitted is expressed at an atomic level by motions of atoms, molecules, and their constituent parts. These motions include changes in position and in-place vibrations and rotations. These fast-moving objects collide with adjacent ones aka a "punch" or "kick". In this case kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of an object is the energy that it possesses due to its motion. It is defined as the work needed to accelerate a body of a given mass from rest to its stated velocity. Having gained this energy during its acceleration, the body maintains this kinetic energy unless its speed changes. Punching power is the amount of kinetic energy in a person's punches. Long story short, anyone that believes Bruce's speed doesn't equate to powerful is demonstrably incorrect on a universal scale.
@TheWallReports
@TheWallReports 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrAnderson5157 I made the same point about the physics of speed/velocity in kinetic energy vs mass on another YT channel where Michael Jai White, who is a great martial artist in his own right and I like very much, stated in an interview that Bruce was a martial arts actor. I like MJW very much but he was wrong on a number points. Bruce was a martial artist who became an actor, just like himself. MJW being 220 lbs stated physics of size is everything. When dealing w/normal individuals this is true. However Bruce does not fall into this category. He was trained and he understand the importance of speed and reaction to overcome his lack of mass. According to physic as you've stated Bruce could be 110 lbs, half the weight of MJW, but if he could increase his punch speed to 0.25 or 1/4 faster than that of MJW he is capable of generating the same amount of kinetic impact force which a very feasible given he has less inertia to overcome during the acceleration process.

I happened to have been privileged to personally know someone who sparred against Bruce and this gentleman was my father’s mentor and sergeant when he was a police officer. He has since, like Mr. Lee passed away. But he told my brothers and I a story about him when we were kids. He was a short, stocky built Italian and HE was built like a rock. He said making contact with Bruce Lee was like making contact with steel and his speed would make you think that he wasn’t even human. This is coming from a man who was skilled in martial arts himself and he said “That guy was unbelievable”. And that seeing him on tv was one thing, actually being face to face with him, was totally different.

Bruce Lee had super human speed, because he trained NONE STOP. And I'm gonna keep saying it, because people don't seem to understand, he didn't lift weight, he trained martial arts. So when you see all these guys who go to the gym and are big that means nothing, because you never had to lift weights if you practiced martial arts as much as humanly possible. He was that person, he was the guy who never stopped practicing, and never stopped revising. That's what made him the best. He was always thinking about it, always trying to find new ways to improve.

Although he had exceptional speed.... his acuracy and timing were super human as well and still these attributes take second place to his philosophy and evolution of the martial arts in general. His philosophy of a formless form is what became MMA. He realised most movements of martial arts were just flourish and a dance of sorts that was meaningless in a real fight. He was a dancing champion as a youth and also got into fights LOL. As a result of seeing the limits of fixed styles later in life he studied many different martial arts besides wing chun... judo, karate, ju juitsu, boxing. Even fencing with it's dance like footwork which inspired his Jeet kune do lead leg stance with leading jab/faint. Bruce invented MMA by absorbing the techniques that actually work from the various martial arts creating his own unique style. His philosophy was learn the techniques from all combat forms that work for you and that you can employ and that every martial artist will develop their own style in time rather than just emulating a teacher. He was so versed in the all the moves of his competitors he would react with an intercepting counter attack and so quickly that opponents could not be first to strike. This is taking the form (of the teapot) that the opponent presents and IS the essence of The Way of the Intercepting Fist (Jeet Kune Do) "Be like water my friend". his training allowed him to react with muscle memory without thinking about it. "It hit's all by itself" "the word 'I' does not exist". very philosophical and now we have the UFC! yay.
@roiforbes
@roiforbes Жыл бұрын
Not sure about the dance champion not. Cha cha is part of a five dance category, and to become a dance champion requires as much work as to become a martial arts champion. Maybe he won a wee regional cha cha competition. Anyway had he taken a different route in his martial arts career, I'm sure he could have become a world champion competitor or even boxer. Who knows, had he done so he may have avoided the events that killed him, and may be alive (and still famous) today!

@WholeCosmos
@WholeCosmos Жыл бұрын
@@drw_predator i think the biggest take away is learn the techniques that are simple and effective in real fighting and because every student is different they will have strengths and weaknesses. focus on training the things you can do well. for example I cant do a reverse roundhouse because of my joints so i do other kicks instead. train what you can do and train it well so that when it happens it hits all by itself. Muscle memory. This is what he meant by not having a style and that unless you are copying someone like an impersonator your movements and execution will be its own expression and that's what puts the ART in martial arts. all of Bruce Lees flares and cries are his personal Art his unique style. That is mimicked very poorly by other actors and martial artists. he recognized each person has their own style hence Jeet Kune Do is a style without a style formless form adapt to your environment like water in a teapot. you inject the style into a form.

Bruce Lee was the greatest martial artist. But while many people focus on his martial arts mastery, a lot of people forget that he was also a philosopher, and first and foremost he was a family man. His children and his wife were first in his life. But he was also a friend a mentor and just one of the guys. And, Bruce was so smart that if you had a problem chances are he had the solution. R.I.P. YOu can tell Bruce Lee knows how to fight just by watching him although his fights are choreographed. It's the way he moves and his persona is like that of a streetfighter. He broke tradition with his style of martial arts. You can tell his American roots had an influence on him which subsequently influenced generations of fighters and millions of fans.

Please, someone has to be serious about carrying the torch of Jackie Chan's legacy. I understand no one is going to do stunts like this man except maybe skateboarders and pro wrestlers who film their stunts and injuries to this day. But hopefully a martial artist can continue the tradition of Jackie Chan's style before "wire fu" becomes a global standard. I wish all you stunt artists good luck, good fortune and most of all good health in fast recovery. Be well and THANK YOU JACKIE, SAMO and YUEN BIAO.

Most of the acrobatics you see in Lee's movies were done by his stunt double as Lee couldn't do them because of his back issues. Even here with Sammo Hung it is Lee plus his double doing the fight scenes. The famous scene where Bob Wall gets kicked while grabbing Lee's foot is not Lee but again his stunt double. Lee could do those things previously but his back issues forced him to use a stunt double named Yuen Wah.

Must have been a pretty bothersome situation for Lee. I think he had a major accident at some point. Did the back issues originate from that or had these another cause?
@NorsePJ
@NorsePJ 2 жыл бұрын
@@lorddaro7771 Bruce Lee injured his back in 1970 due to overtraining without a proper warm up. He felt a snap in his back and the result was damage to his sacral nerve. The doctors could not undo it and Lee was told he would not be able to train again. But Lee went on anyway but it came at a cost. And he was not able to perform certain things any longer hence the stunt double.

bruce lee learned some tai chi style as a young kid from his father before moving on and learning different other martial art styles. in tai chi there is something like fa jin, a kind of explosive move. it grows from your center and the force comes out in a symmetrical way. he must have understood this at a young age and tried to implement that knowledge in every style that he learned. and probably mixed it with other kind of body mechanics like the movement of the whip where you do create a wave that travels from inside to the outside. that very analytic thinking got him to that fast moves. it is the extreme slow movement that leads to basic understanding of static forces, where you develop the movement in a symmetry of forces and on the other side fast movements where forces can travel as a wave and can be amplified from inside to the outside every time when you move the force in a different direction. not ending as an old grandpa with learning tai chi at the end of life but starting with it at a very young age gave him some knowledge that shaped his whole martial art journey. his fast movements came from that deep understanding of body mechanics. zhan zhuang and slow movements, symmetry through chan si gong, explosive movements like fa jin until the application of moving waves of forces like a whip
