When asking "How could you let Jackie do this?" you should ask Jackie. He was the stunt coordinator in most his movies I think.

The woman who fell off the car near the end was Michelle Yeoh who is in the running for an Oscar this year for Everything Everywhere All At Once. She was also a Bond girl when Pierce Brosnan was Bond. She had her start in the Hong Kong kung fu cinema doing her own stunts and she did some seriously hairy stunts (like jumping a motorcycle from an embankment onto a moving train). Clearly she survived falling off the car and into traffic.

In the actual behind the scenes, both she and the motorcycle were sispended by cables above the train and lowered into position. Also a stuntman jumped the bike over the train & into boxes on tbe other side. It was still good work by Michelle just not as dangerous as people were led to believe. She also credits Jackie with saving her life in the car incident by holding on to her long enough to deflect her fall.

This is why Jackie Chan is a legend that has unfortunately suffered a lot of injures because of his commitment. I’m glad I got to work as an extra when they where filming the spy next door, even if most of the footage was cut.

Seth you should see the behind the scenes of Police Story 3 and highlight Michelle Yeoh because she’s somehow an underrated stunt woman and actress. Jackie did the helicopter stunt in that movie because he had to try and outdo Michelle’s motorcycle jump and roll onto a moving train because he was the star of the film haha. There’s a scene where Michelle was supposed to fall of the back of a van and crash into the windshield of Jackie’s car but the special glass didn’t shatter and went tumbling around the car. She was nearly ran over and when the team got to her, she insisted to try it again. Hong Kong used to have some real tough talent.

If I remember correctly, the clocktower scene was done twice. Apparently Jackie didn't like that version so he went and did it again - I'm not sure which take you watched but I think that was the second one. The film at 6:01 is Police Story 2 and sliding down that pole with all the lights resulted in an electric shock (for obvious reasons) as well as 2nd degree burns and, get this, a dislocated pelvis...ouch!
@Tabris93

He actually does it three times. There is the one time in the movie and in the credit scenes you can see it done two other times. You can see that it's three separate falls because the falls and the landing are all different.

@moustachio334
@moustachio334 Жыл бұрын
Tony did all of the stunts in Ong Bak. Tony was heavily influenced by Jackie Chan and he almost had a cameo in a Jackie Chan movie but unfortunately they had conflicting schedules. Tony Jaa could do a back flip and kick the ball out of someone’s hand who was on top of two other people. He also had an insane vertical jump. His stunt mentor once commented that gravity didn’t seem to affect Tony the same as anyone else 😂. Also I heard Tony used to watch wire fu movies as a kid and thought the jumps were real so he trained constantly in jumping and climbing trying to recreate those movies. Ah thanks to Tony we got a lot of great action movies out of Thailand.

Most Hong Kong action films were shot with limited budgets and the action, especially if it was martial arts, was really up to the actors and the choreography was a place to start. The crazy dangerous stuff you see (though not to the degree that Jackie Chan routinely went to) was happening in almost every film. If you haven't scene Hong Kong action films and Thai action films from the 80's and 90's, then you haven't seen Action.

One of the hangs (not the fall) from the tower was done by Mars for the camera to focus ...another stuntman did a test fall for the same reason the first time and was taken to the hospital. After the guy was seriously injured, Jackie's father who was an extra in the scene tried to tell him not to do it. The next day he told his father that they weren't filming so he wouldn't be on set. Jackie was then prodded by Sammo to do the stunt and he reluctantly obliged. Realizing that he was still alive and relatively in one piece, Jackie, convinced that he could do it better, decided to do the stunt again while he was still full of adrenaline. Unfortunately, the last fall wasn't without serious injury. Also, Jackie did do the final building slide that was featured in the movie. He fractured his ankle again when he landed at the bottom and had to be help off the building. ie: BTS ... Who Am I.

He's not from an educated background ( like basic education) and came from an abusive upbringing in the Chinese Opera, where they would be beaten with sticks if they got something wrong. He's open about his shitty behaviour, drugs, drunk driving, picking fights in clubs wih his friends when he was he made it big 40 years ago. The daughter thing isn't because she's a lesbian. He said he doesn't care, he just wants her to get a job to support herself and she doesn't want that lifestyle.
