Lenard M He recorded the fight twice from both perspectives. The choreography and CGI was unprecedented for it's time. The movie might be a bit on the cheesy side but the fights are amazing. I assume it's selection bias. They are only looking at the best Bollywood films, because those are what they would of course hear about/be told to review. Likewise, assuming you are in India, you would only see big-budget american movies that are popular enough to be promoted in India as well as America (though I assume a majority of Hollywood films release in India, but IDK.). So when they say "Bollywood takes risks american films don't", they are forgetting that they only see the ones that succeeded despite the risk (or failed in a distinct way).
@megatronusv22154 жыл бұрын
@@zane4218 i disagree, I grew up watching bollywood movies and they're all pretty much like this. Almost all are musicals in a sense too. Idk it's a very different style and even the ones that fail aren't straying too much from this formula. As for Hollywood movies, yeah a lot aren't great but the majority are far ahead of bollywood in terms of good script writing and production. Idk appealing to very demographics + cultural differences I suppose

I'm seriously confused why they'd bother with CG'ing out the dancer's midriff. Sarees (the dress she wears) by design reveal the stomach, and it's common across tens of millions of Indian women, and practically a cultural symbol. Certainly can't be for toning down sexiness, since I've seen way saucier dances in indian films before, midriff and all.
@rohankrishna95924 жыл бұрын
That particular movie was heavily controversial when it first came out. Certain parts of india heavily criticised it for 'misrepresenting' the main character. They released the movie again with added cg to make the main character look as modest as possible.
@samueldantas27024 жыл бұрын
@@rohankrishna9592 That's kinda stupid
@kevinrockz54 жыл бұрын
The character was based on a historic figure and some people were offended that someone who is like a goddess to them was shown dancing contrary to actual history, so covering the midriff was like a settlement.
@gmcubed4 жыл бұрын
It bugs me that even jasmine in both the new movie and the costumed character isn't allowed to show middrif for probably similar reasons. It's just a stomach people.

Padmawati was a Hindu Rajput queen, who instead of being captured by a muslim king Khilji, decided to kill herself when he attacked their kingdom. Film's original title was "Padmawati". Apparently Khilji had heard about her exceptional beauty and wanted to have her as one of his wives. Khilji attacked the kingdom, her husband, the king died fighting. They lost. Now there was this Rajput practice called "Johar/jauhar". The ladies used to burn themselves alive in a huge fire pool whenever it was apparent that the men were going to lose so that the attackers couldn't do anything to them. Instead of being captured by the attackers, they used to burn themselves alive, and they are still a symbol of bravery and courage. And the movie had been controversial ever since it was announced, because Padmavati is still worshipped as a godess or a mother in many cultures in India. And reportedly the movie was going to be based on the writings of a muslim scholar, which according to a lot of people is not an accurate depiction of what happened. So a lot of people didn't want a movie on her life to be made at all. There were protests going on while they were shooting the film. And ofcourse a lot of these protests got violent. People accused the director of sexualizing the story and of dishonoring the culture by misrepresenting the story. Ofcourse nobody knew what the actual story of the movie was and what it was based on. People demanded the movie to be banned. A lot of court cases were filed. Director went through hell, so they made some alterations like the one you see here and also changed the name to "Padmaavat", which I'm pretty sue doesn't even mean anything. He appealed not to judge the movie just on the basis of the rumours without even watching it. After being delayed for months the movie got releasead amid protests and controversies.And as it turned out, there was nothing particularly wrong with the movie, there was no cultural misappropriation, it was at it's best a pretty average movie tbh. The music, set designs and performances of the actors were sone of the best I've seen in the Indian movie industry, it was one of the costliest movies that have been produced in India afterall, but it was definitely not one of the director's finest works. He's a genius btw, who has made some of the best hindi movies. But as they say, any kind of publicity is good publicity. The movie did great and infact it is one of the most successful Indian movies in terms of box office collections.
