Jackie wrote and composed this song in 2021 about her experience with a "mental break", and 4 other songs, Consequences, Smoking Gun, Get Out of My Life and Broken Things, all of which are scheduled to be released in an EP in April, She says, "alternative pop happens to be the way I write". Sure, you know better than the professionals what genre Jackie is writing in. Alternative rock/pop originated in the late 70s with artists who realized they didn't have to rely upon a major label to produce their music, but could produce it themselves or under a smaller label as Jackie is doing. Their music became ALTERNATIVE to being in the mainstream, and consists of various sub-genres that have come out of the indie music scene since the 80s Jackie is writing and producing alternative POP as an independent artist. Take your disagreement to Melody Place Records.

Oh, Jackie!!!! Wow! This is such an intriguing and creatively expressed video showing on so many levels the struggles of dealing with mental health issues. It's all here, visually for us to see and to also recognize under the surface, too. I am sure that many people will be able to relate to this song (if they hadn't already heard it earlier) and its visual presentation. One thing I especially appreciate is how it effectively brings out the contrasts so often present in life, but which are especially difficult in day-to-day life with one or more mental health problems. You and your videographer wonderfully captured the rapidity of how moods can change, how behaviors and thoughts can suddenly be altered with what feels like the flip of a switch, how at one point the world seems grey and drab, colorless, but then suddenly -- BOOM!! -- springs into full-on, vivid color. (Sometimes too vivid?) I had wondered how the part in the song about "things lurking in the dark" that "like to leave a mark inside of you" would be visually interpreted and I love the way this is done, and the colorless origami "birds" floating around in a dreamy sequence, not quite in touch with reality..... with eventually one, somehow carefully on its own in a protective cage, finally displaying some color, standing out, waiting to be noticed, trying to say in a different way, "hey, I'm here, but I'm my own person!" a small origami bird becoming a sign of hope, even while perhaps not making the healthiest choices, taking the healthiest options, knowing instinctively that finding and somehow establishing control over something that then could move to the next step and beyond that there was something much greater to reach for and to cherish and with which to work towards a healthier, happier future. I also love how you brought into this video more of your own creativity by showing us you at work painting, creating something new, and then maybe once again struggling and feeling the impulse to destroy it but then, thankfully, happily, allowing one beautiful creation to keep shining through and by gently plucking it, rescuing it from the confusion and struggles. It's lovely...... Keep moving forward, Jackie! You're confronting those "things lurking in the dark" and while they may still leave a mark or try to do so, you are also figuring out how to not let that hurt you, how to ignore that (often negative, potentially destructive) mark and move on finding and celebrating your own identity and your own creativity and ability to present gifts to offer the world, in your own time and your own way....

Nothing like replying to my own message but I forgot to include and mention (and decided that actually this was worth an additional comment rather than simply editing the original post) that for people who have struggled with eating disorders, the (origami) bird in the golden cage also can be viewed as symbolic and has special meaning. Many years ago Hilde Bruch wrote a book which was important and quite significant at that time, as she explored the then still-mysterious world of eating disorders and the (decidedly limited) treatment of anorexia nervosa available . Thankfully years have passed, times have changed, much research and day-to-day more actual hands-on work with many people living with an ED, so there are options available now. Most importantly, while that bird can and may possibly remain trapped in that cage forever, it does really does have options: there is a door in that cage which opens and allows the bird to fly free and, over a period of hard work and struggle, regain health and happiness.

@@jeremyacton4569 Do you realize that classical crossover consists of multiple genres, but primarily pop songs covered by classical artists such as Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, for example. That's why it's called "crossover"....classical to pop. Jackie continues to perform her classical crossover repertoire in concert. From the beginning of her career, Jackie has covered classical, Broadway, pop ballads, movie themes (many of them considered pop), jazz, symphonic metal, Christian, contemporary pop, country, folk-pop (Joni Mitchell) and even performed rock songs from a Broadway rock musical. Have you watched her performances on The Masked Singer season 3 as "Kitty"?.....masked singer Kitty -"All Performances and Reveal". This song, Behind My Eyes is Alternative pop. It's the way I write", Jackie says. And, "In the future, the majority of music you hear from me will be mine, because that's where the true passion is for me."

@@cl9786 I am glad to read your message @cl9786 , as I was wondering where the modern songs were coming from. I am now even more impressed with Jackie's creative talent. A singer who writes her own work is heads above any pop celeb who sings songs written by committees. Jackie's songs are very sophisticated and smooth and beautifully crafted, and they are impeccably presented. Looking back at AGT, (I have just re-watched the finale) her path was already clear, but I didn't pay much attention after the competition,. To only now discover her work since then, has been a major eyeopener to me, to see how far Jackie has developed her musical creativity. I will gladly listen to and appreciate all her music in any genres she might ever wish to work in, and I will listen often into the future.

You could think that. Consider this: Try to understand the meaning of the opening scene, and how it connects with the last scene through what she sees behind her eyes while lying on the bed in a kind of "day dream" that begins with closing in on her eye.....Switching to dramatic color in the close-up and and waving her hands conveys the torment of feeling she's losing her mind, afraid of what she imagines, and wanting to run away from it, life "torn at the seam". Being surrounded by paper birds represents a false reality. The red crane symbolizes her "individuality" trapped in a cage, then finally being freed to soar above it. Jackie is a creative painter, an artist, demonstrated by painting flowers on the glass, then chaotic smearing of colors over and around them with her fingers in free expression. She plucks the real flower (reality) from the glass, then comes out of the day dream to ponder. It's all symbolic of a time in her life when she was dealing with the consequence of a serious illness (anorexia) and associated mental illness a "mental break", she called it, complicated by other emotional stresses, all together taking her out of the public eye for a year.

Negative environmental programing...by whom? it's the result of mental stress (a break down) associated with a serious relapse of her eating disorder complicated by other events in her life at the time.....being out of work because of the pandemic, her parents getting divorced, losing her suburban home, and uncertain about the future of her career.
