Actually not. Ave does not mean holy, but " I greet thee" Mary. It comes from angel Gabriel's speech when he announces her she ll be the mother of Jesus.

cere tomer Actually there are several tunes sung to the hymn "Ave Maria" Which one do you mean? The two most common are by Schubert and Bach/Gounod. The Bach/Gounod is based apon a treble melody composed by Gounod over a prelude by J.S.Bach used as the bass line.
