What a beautiful piece but your start of the turning so brought back memories of jr high school wood shop and the day a student caught his tool roughing in his piece on the lathe he caught the tip and launched his chisel across the shop and fully embedding into the wall! Hi Jim, as I beginner I’d recommend you don’t try to emulate my practices and instead learn the basics first. For example people have an issue with me starting this project with a square piece of wood and using the lathe rather than the bandsaw to make it round. Iv been turning wood as my profession for many years. The way I work is safe for me as I know the potential hazards and understanding how to avoid them. Woodturning os complex by nature and understanding the basics first is essential. That being said, if I was only making videos that could be copied directly by a beginner my channel would not be anywhere near as interesting. Please don’t use my videos as information, they are not intended that way which is why I don’t narrate them or at any time instruct others to do anything. If you have any questions regarding woodturning I’m always more than happy to advise. Cheers Jack.

Back in Jr high I had mostly finished a bowl I'd spent the entire quarter on, was just putting it on the lathe for some final sanding -- but someone had left the lathe at full speed when they powered it off and my bowl rapidly hit an RPM that shattered it into dozens of pieces. Found some of it 40 feet away. Kind of a shame. Also, potentially fatal but I lucked out.

You should make an outtakes video to remind people how dangerous a lathe can be. When the work flies out or when it grabs the tool and sends it singing across the shop. My wood shop teacher was missing his index and middle fingers from some accident. He never told us what happened but he did tell us about all the accidents he saw, every single class. Because of that, i still have all my fingers, toes and both eyes. My hearing is shot though and ive a piece of my hammer in my forearm but thats industrial life.. Good work. Be safe.
@JackMackWoodturning3 жыл бұрын
Iv been woodturning for along time now and have only had one bed accident. It’s on my video called “exploding bowl” you can watch it and learn what happens when one becomes complacent while operating machines. The aim is to always avoid accidents, that is done by knowing your limitations as you learn and build experience while maintaining a healthy fear of the dangers. I have to add, the work should never fly out and the tool should definitely not fly across the room. If this happens even once while your woodTuring you desperately need to stop, slow down and learn the very very basics of work holding and how to present a cutting edge to the wood. Appreciate you watching mate

First thing you should consider is a vacuum machine to suck away the dust (like you see in the video). Then, big and good lathes have a rail on the height of your knees which kill the power in case you get dragged towards the machine. Most important is a faceshield and not working with longsleeve clothings, bracelets, chains around your neck or hoodie strings hanging down your shoulders. Turning is relaxing, focusing and satisfying (y) - go for it!

Когато всичко е в главата ти ръцете сами следват мисълта. Невероятен замисъл. Оригинално и много добре изпипано. Красота !!!

I like it when he starts something slowly to show us what he is doing before activating his superspeed and completing 90% of it in one second.

Sorry I have no way of translating this

@@JackMackWoodturning - That's really weird, Google translation actually worked for me. The short version is Hector is awed and amazed by you. He compared you to Michelangelo by your exposing the life within the wood. Well is your head sufficiently swollen? 😉😁

To be more accurate.. The KZbin studio app doesn’t allow me to copy and paste using my phone. I don’t have time to get the laptop out to translate all non English KZbin comments. I feel this is a little long winded to write 50 times per day. Thank you for taking the time to translate on hectors behalf. You are too kind. 👍🏻

@@JackMackWoodturning - Ah. Gratefully the Google Translation comes up on your vids. Some vids have them and some don't. I've been wondering if it had anything with the set up of posting the vid. But I do know you can respond to Hector's GLOWING review of you and he shoul be able to translate it. I have had problems with copying a section of a post I'm writing if I want to move it. The second I try and press a certain spot the thing pops up like I've already done that part....OY....
