I just love you channel. My favorite music is the 1920s,30s,40s British dance bands.Do you remember a series called First of the Summer Wine ? It was set just before the second World War. And they played music from British dance bands. One of my favorite songs is SWEET AND LOVELY. I Just love the history of the British isles back in those days. Also the clothes we used to wear, men had suits and hats and the ladies wore dresses and hats, I think people looked a lot smarter in those days. We live in an entirely different society today. Best wishes from the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Whilst I don't recall the TV programme you mention, do agree with your views concerning discerning fashions of the era. Thank you very much for your kind comment and hope you continue to enjoy my channel and the charms of music from a more graceful age. Best wishes from Lancashire.

Isn't it wonderful that Regal was so prolific in recording Jack Paynes dance selections during his 1927 stay at that swank Cecil Hotel? I can close my eyes and imagine I'm sitting at a table in the Hotel dining room taking tea and fancy scones as I listen to this crack orchestra in the background, playing these delightful songs just for me! What a brilliant dance program you have assembled here from your remarkable collection! Bravo for this novel acheivement! I like the ending of Cherry Ripe where the songs' conclusion is extended by the succession of modernistic chords, leaving dancers with that "up in the air" feeling! Followed by that Charleston tag of course! Only in the twenties! 😊 🎶

I believe the "Hotel Cecil" was a really lavish luxury hotel. I have only seen photographs of the interior of course, but it looked really plush with no expense spared. It is such a shame that it was demolished. Atleast we have these recordings to remind us what it must have been like in those days of style & luxury. Atleast for those that could afford it 😆!

Fantastic photo of the old Cecil Hotel. Shame it's gone, although it did look rather neglected to be honest.

The Cecil reminds be of the St. Pancras Hotel. It too closed (in 1935, the Cecil in 1930), as it wasn't refurbished and became too dated. The majority of the St. Pancras Hotel stood empty for around seven decades until it finally became exclusive appartments. Pity the same didn't happen to the Cecil.

I think your collection of 78s looks amazing. How many do you have and how long have you been collecting them. 👍

Really nice selections. I believe I've only heard a couple of these before. I wold love to hear the reasons listeners have to give this set a thumbs down? Makes no sense.

A friend once told me concerning dislikes (after all they are dance band fans) - they actually like the record BUT what they don't like is you have a copy and they don't! Many thanks to you and all those you have liked and commented, for being discerning and above all, positive.

The hotel certainly is in a sad decline as far as the people who frequent it and who work there these days!

What an hotel the Cecil was! Is it still standing today? (Excuse an ignorant swede)

The hotel closed towards the end of 1930. The main part of the building was demolished soon afterwards. All that stands today is the facade on The Strand, which can be seen in the first photograph.

I wonder if anyone remembers JP's TV programmes in the 50's. This is a super selection. Regal are best, Columbia good but Imperial- whatta mistaka to make!

Jack Hylton did a similar thing, moving over to Decca, with terrible sound quality initially, although they sorted out that problem quicker than Imperial did for Jack Payne, until 1933.
