Listening to Sade is like taking a substance. Immediately, a majestic, sensual wave washes over you and it can take you to various emotions. You probably won't be able to identify the emotion(s) right away, probably won't even know where they came from. Simple and yet complex. Did she plant them in your head, or did she bring it out from deep within you. Love, depression, sexual, fantasy, excitement, heartbreak. All emotions you've felt before, but experiencing it through Sade is like feeling your soul has elevated somehow. You're gonna feel something and no matter the emotion, there's always a sense of calm to it. Like you at peace with whatever emotion you're feeling. The best thing to do is just simply ride the wave...

What I love about Sade is she´s not trying to be something she´s not. She´s not trying to be "in", edgy, sexy, provocative, cool whatever. She´s just herself and that´s when depth and originality can step in. That´s also how you know you´ve come across a REAL artist. I actually feel that people used to be like that in the past, now I can´t tell one from the other, just because they all wanna be all of the above and they all end up being the same, ridiculous, artificial creatures.

I have "Sweetest taboo" tattooed on my forearm and "Love is stronger than pride" tattooed on my left shoulder...that's how deep it is. There is NO OTHER singer like her. She is ethereal, breathtakingly beautiful, and her voice always gives me chills. I was lucky to see her in concert back in 2010 and am praying for another album from her sometime in the near future. It would be great if you reviewed "Bulletproof Soul" and "Feel No Pain." These are two of my favorites, and a little more obscure songs, but some of her best work. I think you would dig the production value of "Feel No Pain" as well. Sade has always had one of the best bands, in my opinion.

You capture a lot of what makes Sade unique. One minor point of clarification: Sade is actually a band. Obviously they took their name from their lead singer, Sade Adu. The other main members are Stuart Matthewman, Paul Dennman, and Paul Anthony Cook with some other musicians coming in and out over the years. The rest of the band, Matthewman in particular as the lead producer, are just as integral to the unique sound as Ms. Adu is.

I think it's because her music style is..."Dreamy", very out of this world, one big advantage of this is that it is timeless, no matter which decade you listen to this, it doesnt feel old or like its "too 80s" it just fits. Her songs remind me of sunday afternoons in the 80s, very slow, sunny and family oriented day, but with a relaxed feeling. Back in the day a lot of movie directors were asked to direct music videos. They would sometimes incorporate plot lines and stories into them. A lot of times the stories couldnt be told in one 3-5 minute music video so they'd spread it out across the singles the artist plan to release. Sometimes all 4 singles will tell the story, other times just 1 or 2. This was her first single from the promise album and the first part in the music video cinematic experience. You will notice her love interest is the same guy from "is it a crime" and what she wrote on the window carried over to the "is it a crime" video. "Is it a crime" was her second single and part 2 in this music video story. I won't spoil the plot in case you want to watch it again in order. Video directors and record execs tried a lot of creative things with videos that was mostly lost on viewers. For the Boyz 2 men song, "motownphilly" the video was used to showcase new and upcoming artists from the newly formed Biv 10 records. Don't feel bad if you didn't recognize any of them--we didn't either (with a couple of exceptions). Many of them hadn't even released a debut single let alone a full album. Most of their careers did not make it past that video cameo. The guy responsible for this is Michael Bivins from New Edition and later BBD. He started Biv10/Bivins management under the parent company of Motown. He's also in the video. Another hilarious fact about the Motownphilly video is that they tried to advertise what was supposed to be the name of Boyz 2 mens second and yet to be recorded album. That's why there was that scrolling marquee saying "coming soon the alexvanderpoolera." That was supposed to be the name of their next album. Biv had them give a name to an album they hadn't even recorded yet. Fortunately, the guys got wise after seeing how poorly Biv was able to execute his vision and secretly asked Motown, for a management change. Their follow up album II was released on Motown and featured the record setting hits "I'll make love to you," "on bended knee," as well as water runs dry. By your side by Sade was her last major hit. It's an amazing song. I doubt many people will remember it to request it but I hope you will react to it anyway.

There's a popular late night radio program called "The quiet Storm" where they play old smooth, uplifting, romantic, and laid back music. Sade's singing is the epidamy of a quiet storm, because it moves you like it's powerful, but yet quietly seductive and soothing. She's got that rainy Saturday, "stay in and cuddle up together" type of vibe. If you play her music and then drop that Herb Alpert ft. JANET JACKSON "Making Love in the Rain" song and Terrence Trent D'arby's "Sign your name" song too.... Lord, Jesus!!!! Baby making combos right there.
