This song taught me that artists made hit records without ever being around each other. Nowadays, it's really common (due to technological advancements obviously), however, back in 1998, it was like "wow" to me. The video shoot was the first meeting between the duo. Also: They're from Atlanta. The uptempo sound you're referring to, was one of the main trending sounds, especially around 1998, 1999, from artists in cities like Atlanta and Miami. 90s Atlanta and Miami Hip Hop/R&B were both known for having that uptempo swing, derivative of Chicago House Music (Chicago is the origin of House Music and Soul R&B, in general) in the 80s and early to mid 90s. Believe it or not, House Music originally had a soulful vibe, as well as a Hip Hop vibe, before it became a massive international genre. This song, to me, is a great example of hybrid House x Hip Hop x R&B.
