In an interview, Michael recalled that Diana called him away from the lineup to ask if he would be performing his 1987 hit "Dirty Diana." He replied, "No no, I took the song out of the show out of respect for you," - which makes sense, given that it's about a man-hungry groupie - but apparently, Diana had other ideas. "That's my favorite song!" she told Michael, to which he expressed his disbelief. "At that point, I couldn't put it back into the show because it was too close to showtime," Michael said. Can we all just agree that the thought of Diana bopping in her seat to "Dirty Diana" is pretty incredible? As the conversation between the two went on, Charles became intrigued and walked up to them, asking, "What are you talking about?" Diana, being the badass that she was, replied, "Oh, nothing!" and walked off.

I really liked that this was Princess Diana's favorite song considering the title of the song xD I'm sure a lot of people know what I'm talking about. This, Heaven Can Wait, Stranger in Moscow and Earth Song are my favorite by him. He has a lot of good song. I think I remember more Michael Jackson songs than any other artist in the world (I'm not even joking lol) and it's probably because my mom was a fan of his. Also The Weeknd attempted this cover. I think only the first verse came close to the amount of energy Michael gave, but the rest was a whisper lol This song is tough to deliver, I think. Requires a lot of energy!

People used to want to imply that the song was about Diana Ross,who was a lifetime friend. Michael’s passion in his work was always consistent. Wouldn’t say that it serves as an indication of whether or not he had actually had that experience or not. He also wrote Billie Jean, cried when he sang ‘She’s Out Of My Life, which many thought was about his friend, actress Tatum O’Neal. Actually, it would be interesting to hear her answer to that question, if she thought he was thinking of her when he sang it. Quincy says he cried on every take, apologizing ever time, so they had to go with the tears at the end. But MJ sang Bout a rat for a movie theme song as a kid, & you may have heard him sing a Smokey Robinson composition, ‘Who’s Lovin You, when he was 10 or 11, like he was a grown ass man. Great performers lose themselves in a song, & you supposed to feel like they went through it.

We would do this on the way to school every morning 😄❤️ I wish I had been old enough to see MJ in concert whilst he was still alive. I was just in highschool when he died. You sweet summer child you. Innocence oh innocence, how we did part, so long ago. Enjoy yours why you have it cause some day you’ll miss it 😂 It’s not about a girl he’s in love with. It’s about a groupie, on her knees, “begging” to become a star. 😏 I love so much of Michael Jackson’s music. I was a kid from the 80’s. When Michael and his music ruled the world, and the Thriller video premier was literally a world event. It’s my generation. But I’d have to say, out of all his incredible music, this is my all time favorite song. Precisely because it’s not innocent, and it’s the edgiest, the hardest, the grittiest Michael ever got while venturing into rock, with a composition and full of passion vocals that sound deliciously, darkly, dangerous…and absolutely incredible.

When Michael wrote this song, Quincy Jones tried desperately to get him to change the lyrics for fear people would know it's about Diana Ross. As a compromise, Michael changed some of the second verse to be about groupies so when asked, he can say the song was about groupies. To my knowledge Michael has not said it wasn't about Diana. He's just said it's about groupies and it was...too. Much of the lyrics describes what was long known about Diana Ross and what was rumored about her relationship with Michael. She was a seductress who seduced famous men. She was rumored to have seduced a young MJ and he fell hard for her. He gave her the engagement ring she famously wore at the motown 25th anniversary TV special. MJ's mom disapproved of their engagement and leaked it to the tabloids. She thought Diana was too old for him. If you look up tabloid magazines from that time period, there was countless stories calling Diana a cradle robber and detailing their affair. It seems odd that he would write a song confirming the rumors then say it's not what we think. Where the bitterness comes from is that Diana couldn't handle the hate she was getting in the press and got married to Arne Naes in 1986. Michael wrote a lot of songs about pain, heartbreak and specifically about his relationship with Diana Ross during that time because he was devastated by her marriage and felt she used him. In 1987 he released the "Bad" album with "Dirty Diana" that timeline would be one heck of a coincidence. One way to know for sure it's about exactly who we think it is: of all the names he could've used, he chose Diana. For her part, Diana Ross remade the song and used it as intro to her world tour--which wasn't necessarily an endorsement of the song. More like wearing the diss as a badge of honor. Fun fact, the late Princess Diana once called MJ to tell him that's her favorite song by him. The song "Leave me alone" was also about Diana Ross. I'm sure if we look at other songs on the album, we'd see hints they're about Diana. I'll point out the subtle clues it's about her on your reaction to that video.
@w.l.60054 жыл бұрын
I was always under the impression leave me alone was about the Press and paparazzi
@formerlymel95494 жыл бұрын
@@w.l.6005 The video made it look that way. The actual lyrics of the song was about a jilted lover and made no mention about the paparazzi or could it be interpreted that way. He left little doubt that the song was about Diana Ross when he used the lyrics "aint no mountain that I can't climb, baby." "Aint no mountain high enough" was one of Diana's biggest songs. The story goes that that after Diana jilted him and got engaged to Arne Ness, he wrote a lot of the material for this album about her. Quincy Jones made him change much of the more obvious references but he kept some because he wanted Diana to know it's about her. That's why he chose to keep the name Diana in "dirty Diana." On "leave me alone" the lyrics in the second verse he said "there was a time I used to say girl, I need you." That was changed from "there was a time when I used to say you're all I need to get by." Another reference to a Diana Ross song. The "stop dogging me around" lyrics was a reference to Michael's 1973 solo album "the music and me" where he had a song called "dogging around." Working on that song was when Diana allegedly first molested him when he was 14.
