MJ donated approx. $300-500 MILLION to charities around the world, & started his own charity, Heal The World Foundation. Even in death, 20% of proceeds of all record sales (singles & albums) STILL is donated to the charities he supported over his lifetime, many of them from Africa. (The Jackson 5/Jacksons toured Africa when Michael was still quite young & it really influenced him.)

1. "Man In The Mirror" was written by the wonderful Siedah Garrett (lyrics) and Glen Ballard (music). You hear Siedah's voice (solo) in the chorus. 2. Over his lifetime, Michael Jackson gave over $300 million dollars to charity. In 2000, The Guinness Book of World Records cited him as the most philanthropic pop star in history. 3. Even more significant than giving money, however, Michael Jackson gave his time. At every stop on his tours, he visited orphanages and hospitals.

When Michael was a young boy he traveled to Africa with his family. He was so overcome by the poverty that he promised his mother ( a devout Jehovah"s Witness ) that he was going to make a change in the lives of the poverty stricken . He followed through with that promise and donated a total of 500 million dollars to charity. You should listen to the original version of "We Are The World."

Guys Michael Jackson was one of the most powerful black man ever lived... not only in music who is a legend.. his greatest strength was the influence he had on a global level.. when Michael sent a message the world listened... Mike threatened the establishment more than any man in US history... He was a stunning humanitarian, stunning, he gave his all.. as well a very strong and passionate activist who used his platform to send strong social and political messages you understand how threatening he can be.. As his skin became whiter the foundation of his art became blacker.. How legendary Michael is.. I freaking love this man..

You are truly amazing Jack. It takes a brilliant mind to so completely understand, describe, and articulate all the layers of what goes into a Michael Jackson gift of artistry. You may not be aware of his continual philanthropy even from a young man to help others. He contributed a substantial portion of his wealth in helping others. He had a deep understanding of the human condition. All of these offerings are completely his vision and he worked with the best in the business to fulfill it.

Great reaction, as always :). There's a split second of footage with him in it from a visit to Japan, but you have to look hard for him because it's a crowd shot. So, if you blink, you miss it. I agree with you that the lack of any overt presence from him in the main clip is intentional (there's another version for his Moonwalker movie that features concert footage of him performing the song). He was almost always heavily involved in the conceptual direction of his visuals, and this was not one of the exceptions. This is the only song on Bad (1987) that Michael didn't have writing credits on (in fact, he wrote most of the songs on that album by himself), so the fact that out of all the outside compositions he could've brought in for the project, he chose this one, is telling. Siedah Garrett (who Michael wrote and sang "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" with, and later took on tour with him in the '90s) and Glen Ballard wrote this for him; Siedah said they wanted to make sure they gave him something special

Such a beautiful song, but the sad thing is that after more than 30 years of it's release, our planet hasn't changed that much. It actually got worse. I really hope we all change our ways and help each other to make this world the better place it should be.

Thank you so much Jack we love when you react to MJ! I will recommend you for sure the live performance that MJ did: it's called 'Man in the mirror 30th annual Grammy 1988’, the performance was so powerful and emotional to me and i'm sure u'll enjoy it! Hi from Paris;)) Take care.
