"is this ACID RAIN?!?!" no, sean. that's what we call hail. and, yes, it can do THAT much damage.
@sunstripe852 жыл бұрын
Hail shouldn't set the sails on fire though, I would think. I've never had it set anything on fire around me, including my car when I've had to drive through it. It did really resemble hail in form and sound, I agree, but I also thought Seán was right that it had an acid nature to it since the sails had to be continuously doused with water so as not to set on fire. Since the rest of the weather was pretty transient and intense and a bit dystopian I wouldn't be surprised if it was acid hail of some sort. But I have absolutely no idea, I'm just guessing :)

54:15 The "little thing in the foreground and the massive thing in the background" could be described as "size-dominant background" using art terms, but maybe a one-word term that would apply (but in a less specific way) is "sublime" (in philosophy, literature, and the arts, the sublime refers to "a quality of greatness that is beyond all calculation, awe-inspiring or worthy of reverence"). Seeing the scale of the world and realizing things are so much bigger than you is awe-inspiring, after all.

Yeah, same with philosophy and art. The sublime refers to some greatness beyond what we can possibly measure, and it’s basically exactly what Seán was describing in that part of the game, the vastness beyond us and the amazement/humility we feel when observing it. I get it when I look at pictures from the Hubble telescope or read about the infinite nature of the universe

Honestly hearing about the people who resolutely refuse to stop living in nuclear fallout zones or similar, simply because that's where they've always lived, this kind of reminds me of that. The main character doesn't want to leave their home behind, because that's where their loved one is buried. Then they think there's no point going because everyone has already left without them. Only to get to their destination and find out everyone else was just waiting for them to make the decision in their own time

In the beginning I was very skeptical, I thought it would be too simplistic for my liking but I’m glad I stuck around. The art style and the music and the visual storytelling was phenomenal. Seriously underrated game, I had never heard of it until now. I really like your take on it representing an afterlife journey, but I interpreted it more as perhaps a journey through grief. In the beginning I’m pretty sure that was the grave of a close loved one the person was at, which is what sparked the thought it could be a journey through grief. The first stage of grief is obviously denial, which I think the character may have already gone through and now had shifted into the anger stage of grief when we start the game. The first actual colour that wasn’t a shade of grey or black that we see is red, which is associated with anger. Then we shift into the bargaining stage as we start to see more colours in the blue isles again. After that comes the depression phase, which represents the darker colour pallet again with the occasional reds. Then finally the last stage is acceptance, your train boat is destroyed and you choose to leave it behind and move forward again by lighting the beacon and rekindling your hope and happiness. Those are just my thoughts, it definitely seems like a game where the interpretations are up to you! No one is right or wrong :)

One of my favorite things I ever wrote was about a creature that made a booming noise. It could be heard from all across it's habitat, the terrifying shrieks of a predator, the sound of footsteps on the prowl It was a rodent no bigger than a possum, an herbivore. It used it's auditory mimicry as a defense

(It even gets pretty difficult at times) The music is incredible and it’s just so vibrant and filled with color, puzzles, and areas to explore. Ngl the ending made me wanna cry just cuz it ended in general. It was a really beautiful game and this game definitely represents and has a ton of similarities.

22:25 - I'm thinking that when travelling under sail power, you should stay up top where the sail button is. This means the view zooms out more so you can see further ahead for obstacles, and you are right next to the lower sail button which functions as a brake 😀
@TheLadyLiddell2 жыл бұрын
Not really. There's a key (I think it's "C") to zoom out wherever you are so the best thing to do is to stand under the actual break button and zoom out to see obstacles..

@hannahlee64172 жыл бұрын
I love Jack's interpretations of the game! This is just an additional one that I was also thinking of. SPOILER!!!! Also, sad theory ahead! I guess my interpretation of the story is that this could also be an analogy for grief. The child lost their father, and this is the emotional life journey that they embark on. Perhaps their way of coping could be trying to realize their father's dream, which would explain all the failed contraptions along the way and the big machine at the end. Once they realize their father's dream, they're forced to come to terms with the fact that nothing they can do will bring their father back, which might be represented by the crash. The shore represents a bittersweet ending as the child finally is able to let go and move onto a different, hopefully happier, phase in their life.
@fin94422 жыл бұрын
damn bro thats a very nice interpretation i love it
@enchanted-36362 жыл бұрын
like you said i feel the story shows the various stages of emotionally healing from the loss... and there were soo many stages where the kid has happy peaceful days, and then the child remembers the feeling of loss and thats represented by the sudden stops and crashes and natural disasters to work out of.... and the symbolism of the sea at the end is the vast new possibilities the child sees after the journey of healing and the beacon is sorta like an inner fire he has built after the growth he has undergone from the pain and realization...
@Shadowkirby142 жыл бұрын
I remember first playing this game, it was great knowing it’s a silent narrative while also showing much of the story through visuals. The game doesn’t show you much on how the game works, but let’s the player figure it out for themselves. It doesn’t hold your hand, but instead let you strategize while also take in the game’s atmosphere. Can’t wait for the sequel!

I heard Jack talk about something on Thomas this has something to do with a child and an adult. If you think about it, Thomas was protecting Jack through all the threats of the outside world. When the game forces you to bring Thomas to the end, it's like the game isn't letting you leave Thomas to suffer.
