So, I offer an explanation: The friend who told the player about the game is the game, he too was uploaded to the core. He keep playing the game, and slowly become addicted and begin to obey the system. Eventually you upload yourself to the core by uploading your brain to it, and then killing your physical self so you become the game. Then you do what you're friend did to you: you share the game, so it can addict more people, and become bigger.

Cypher Ice | Exactly. I found the fourth wall break combined with the slow loss of power worked wonderfully. Games are about empowerment, rarely do I see so,etching with the guts to throw that on its head. Jack was bored by the story and simply wanted to get in and shoot red dudes. That’s the *point.* To bad the gameplay was *so* good that it ended up distracting from the interesting concepts of power and control. Then again, none of us were there for the story. We just wanted to kill red dudes.

Close but not exactly, the parts telling you to quit are hackers trying to shut Super Hot down before it claims more people. These hackers are referenced in the level that flashed: they cracked the system saying the hackers broke through and you (the player) have to kill them. They tried to stop your friend by hacking your messages but it didn’t work so they focused on you, again not working. Game Theory made a video on it and explains more than the hacker part.

I don't think that this game was trying to be pretentious. In the story, you were supposedly being controlled by the game, and were playing against your own will, which is why it was "addicting." Then, when the game was trying to promote itself at the end, it still a story element, which was sort of saying, "Spread the plague so we can get more mindless servants." At least I think that's what it meant.

Jesus this game isn't pretentious at all. It's not up it's arse, it's literally taking the piss out of every shooter game that comes out nowadays - "The most innovative shooter ever" is a phrase we see with every new shooter that comes and it's the same thing as the last. I wouldn't call this game pretentious at all. I'd call it a big middle finger to triple A shooters.

It's not pretentious, the whole getting people to play it by bigging up the game is just part of the story, why can't people see that? If your friend highly recommends a game you might like, what do you do? You play it. That's the whole story of SUPER HOT. They need more people to join for the system to feed off them, so they tell you to tell others that the game is awesome and they should play it too. Thus the number of victims increases. Simple and clever.

no jack you don't get it, there is a difference between the actual game (like that you bought on steam) and the game that the game takes place in. The "Super Hot Game" is a game with in a game, the developers are not saying play "our game", the people in the game (the mind controlled people) are telling you to play the "SuperHot.exe game. There is a separation. All the telling you to "play the game" was part of the story" Does that make sense to anybody?

@jacksepticeye , I love you and all, but you calling it pretentious (and anyone else calling it that) shows that you're not getting the entire concept. It's a game within a game if you didn't realize, kinda like pony island. In the game inside of the game, it was mind controlling and taking over people, who in turn tried to get there friends sucked in and mind controlled as well. The game itself is not saying it's amazing, it's the game inside the game which is trying to control the world (or something along those lines) that's saying it's amazing because it's evil. I really hope you see this because I think it's a really good game and, while it's fine if you dislike it, I'd hope you wouldn't dislike it for the wrong reasons.
