Hey Guys....
Todays vid is a comparison of the Jackson American series SL3 and the MJ series SL2 which came about from a question from a guy who asked for some advice on which one to buy himself.
This is my first attempt at something like this but I enjoyed putting it together and hope you will watching it.
Feel free to comment below and the links to the specs will follow this.
There is a cameo towards the end who is becoming quite a regular so let me know if he is becoming a distraction lol
Enjoy your day/evening wherever you are!!

Hello Sean. Thank you for the nice videos. I would love to watch a detailed comparison of these two guitars. I too plan to buy a Soloist guitar. I have a SL1 in black. So I am leaning towards a white one this time. MJ SL2 in Snow White seems like a good choice to me. On the other hand American SL3 has some good features like MoP inlays which really pop, heelmount truss rod adjustment etc. But It is in HSS configuration again and I'm not sure If Platinum Pearl will look white enough to me. What would be your suggestion? I don't know If you like Randy Rhoads guitars but Korean made White RR24-HS and Black RR24 FR-H are very cool models, maybe you can check them out. Thanks.

Your welcome Hakan…I’ve seen a platinum Pearl at my local dealer and I would buy it if I could right now. I love my Black one btw. My suggestion to you would be to try to find one near you..to me it looked plain white from a distance but the Pearl comes out up close and I imagine would even more so under stage lighting. As for the RR models I used to own one but didn’t play it often but I do love the look and if I was still gigging I’d have at least one I reckon…I will try one when next at a store and sneak some filming in if possible but I did try an ESP arrow last year and the neck was perfect and it sounded great! Have a good one 🤘

The mj wins for me just because of the Gotoh Floyd. I wish they came in more colors like the USA ones

No probs @Shootingstar1203…thanks for watching. Yep they are pretty identical except for the Matt/gloss finish. I can’t exactly tell you why but the SL2 just feels a little faster to me 🤘

Thanks!!! Really appreciate your feedback 😊 When you said neck on MJ SL2 feels faster, did you mean that it actually feels a little thinner comparing to the neck of SL3?

No mate, sorry I probably should’ve have been a little clearer good question…I meant it’s more comfortable in relation to the size of the necks I’ve grown up playing with…what I’m personally used to which is why I always recommend trying a guitar before buying. I’ve gone into stores really wanting to buy a certain one only to try it and it didn’t feel comfortable. They have the same scale length and width at the nut and both compound radius size… maybe it feels faster with the gloss neck which I’m used to.

@@seansenhennguitars thanks a lot! I don’t have a chance to try MJ in store as no dealers in my area carry it in the store, but I was told the neck is very similar to Sl3, maybe tiny bit thicker, is that the same as how you experienced? If so, I think I will go with MJ ;)
@seansenhennguitars
@seansenhennguitars 9 ай бұрын
@@Shootingstar1203 Yeah I don’t really feel much of a difference in thickness but I find the MJ just a pinch easier to play and that most likely comes down to the wrist position of my fretting hand.. I do recommend asking about your stores return policy though before you buy… just incase you aren’t happy with it buddy 🤘

@@seansenhennguitars thanks man! I am going with MJ2 based on your feedbacks and my own research. I feel neck binding makes it look more premium and the Gotoh tremolo is a step up from Floyd 1500. I was able to get a decent deal. Will keep you posted on how things go.. always wanted a Jackson guitar, this would be my first :)

Nice video! Thanks for making one for us! Does the neck on SL2 feel the same (width and thickness goes) comparing to SL3? Thx

Hello~ what is the truss rod type of the MJ series? single or double action?

@seansenhennguitars 4 ай бұрын
Hi mate…I have both obviously and there is not a lot of difference between the two construction wise except that the Gotoh has a brass block as opposed to the steel on the FR. It also has a higher sitting arm so more scope to dive before your hand hits the body of the guitar and the thread on the fine tuners is longer…they both work well for the limited pyrotechnics I employ. If you are on a budget the Gotoh is much cheaper to buy here too! Thats always a plus right?

I vote the MJ SL2. Gloss finish, HH config, white binding on the neck and headstock, sharkfins orientated correctly, GOTOH Floyd. I don't like Satin finishes at all. The SL3 has backwards sharkfins, a FR1500 which should be an OFR for the price, and the lack of ivoroid or white binding doesn't inspire me either.

@wilkinsi I hear you… although I like the finish and colour of the SL3, I love the MIJ for most of those reasons and definitely the sound and playability for my style ..thanks for your input! 👍

one thing that ticks me off about my MIJ is the inlays are very solid white... no texture/chatoyance like abalone at all...looks fake AF. Whereas American has nicer mother of toilet

I get what you are saying though mate. I think the MJ's inlays add to the overall classic look of it when you consider the fretboard binding and toggle switch...the American series is a modern looking guitar to me!🤘

@@seansenhennguitars Yeah the MJ looks like a USA Custom Shop SL2, it has the shark fins the right way, truss rod cover on the headstock, bindings and so on, the American Series doesn't have either.

Is it worth paying extra for sl3?
@seansenhennguitars
@seansenhennguitars 8 ай бұрын
It depends on your budget ….it’s really just a matter of that…also what purpose you want the guitar for….there is not a lot of difference between the two except obviously the pick up configuration sound wise. If you want the extra sound options then the SL3 is the way to go. If you are like me and only regularly play with high gain then the SL2 will do the job. The clean sounds on it are great as with the SL2 but as mentioned a few more pick up options my friend 🤘
