Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary

7 жыл бұрын

Jackson was found in a village half an hour from Freetown. We were alerted to his presence by a local contact, and found him being cared for by approximately 30 young children in unsanitary conditions. Luckily he was bright and alert, appeared to be in good health, and with a spunky personality! Upon his arrival to Tacugama, he jumped right into Mama Posseh's arms as though he had been waiting for her.
Jackson has now joined our other quarantine arrival, Jackie, and they are getting along wonderfully. They have brought out each other's personalities and are learning to use the forest with great skill!
Unfortunately this means the wildlife trade continues in Sierra Leone, and that a family of chimps was likely killed to procure Jackson. We continue to educate and sensitize the country to wildlife conservation and poverty alleviation through alternative livelihood.
Your support helps Tacugama continue these programs and provide the necessary care for the orphans that keep arriving at our doorsteps. Join our adoption challenge and donate now at www.tacugama.com/how-you-can-h...

The kids must have done a good job because the little chimp looked to be in good condition. A number of comments complained about the music but I found it very touching. To each his own, I guess....😼

Thank you and God bless all for saving baby Jackson. Bless the poor children who loved him and cared for him. They are angels. I pray for those children to continue their compassion as they grow up and maybe some will work for animal sanctuaries. Much love and blessings to Jackson, children and rescuers.

I can't believe all the time and valuable resources this poor country wastes on the evil, disgusting creatures? I love how they prey on Americans for money who live thousands of miles away unaware of the absolute horrors this disgusting species is capable of. I just read a recent story from a credible news source in Uganda talking about how these groups of wild chimps are now kidnapping children only to bring their mutilated bodies back to their families home in the middle of the night. I'm.sorry folks that's pure evil!! This is just one story of many regarding the violent and dangerous nature of these disgusting creatures. There are countless stories of people having their limbs torn off, faces eaten , etc. Dont let the baby pictures and sad music fool you, they may be cute as babies but are absolutely horrifying as adults. Invest your emotions and money elsewhere where there wont be any blood on your hands. Ask yourself why they only post videos and pictures of baby chimps never adults? I hope they go extinct in my lifetime.

While I appreciate all of caring and accurate comments about the children who were taking care of Jackson not having enough for themselves, I am focused on Jackson and how he managed to live to a year-and-a-half and still have that Plucky attitude he had toward the man who reached in to the truck. I am especially grateful to the people on this sanctuary who went to get Jackson and brought him back. He clearly knows he's in safer conditions. He's so small that I couldn't picture him that small until I saw him in relation to the children who held him. Bless you all and thank you for doing this job that I can't do at my age and location. Thank you so very much. to the children and for the children, I love you all and would that I could be there to help care for you and teach you your daily school lessons

For all you people complaining about rescuing the baby chimp - imagine what would happen when he was a baby no more and not as controllable. He had to go to a place which specializes in chimp care. And speaking about why they didnt rescue the kids -- they are an organization specializing in chimp rescue and rehab so of course they would seek to rescue what they specialized in. There are many organizations for kids and they could probably look at the kids. This organization was doing the job they were supposed to do.

I thought people were saying all life is important. We all are conditioned to pity the animals while our human brothers and sisters are brushed to the margins of our thoughts.

@@virginiaoflaherty2983 Please do a bit of research of how many organizations are there to help humans and how many to help animals. Funding and organizations for human help are many more. That's why its annoying when nit-picking people make noise everytime they see an animal being helped. And mostly these are people who neither help animals nor humans...they are just the empty vessels who make a lot of nose.

Same here. My heart goes out to them as well - I'm in awe of the care it takes and the years put into rehabbing orangutans for release into the wild into Borneo. The palm oil industry is deforesting the rest of their only habitat and they could be extinct before too many years. Check out Borneo Orangutan Rescue U.K. (BOS) or just look for them here... they have such personalities. These little chimp faces break my my heart too. For those who "want" one, they always get thrown out or caged once they reach puberty and can no longer be handled. My heart breaks for them all. I'd love to take a month and volunteer with BOS. Despite the heat, forest etc... I'd do it in a heartbeat. Lol, it's definitely not a beach vacation in Bala but what an experience it would be.

We live in such a crazy world. Dont get me wrong: animal conservation. Is on the top of my list-but just as important as educating and helping humans. Africa and other places: not excluding the USA- need strong people to make sure we have good living conditions, food and education. First and foremost.. Birth control. Wish it was diff. Great work these people R doing but it's all so heart breaking

Think of it ... who is responsible for our (US, CA, Western Europe) current "good" living conditions? Did they fall out of the clouds? We, i. e. our ancestors, created them. Under often hard circumstances and certainly with lots of effort and personal sacrifices. Think again. The creation of living conditions is just as important as those conditions per se. Then wonder ... is what we consider a good life really the best way of life for everyone? It is for us because we and our way of life have evolved together. However, there are different mentalities, different races, different needs, different approaches to life. If those third world idiots want a change, they have to accomplish it through their own efforts and with goals that fit their own needs, not wait for us to "help" them without getting anything in return. Those scumbuckets are way too stupid to realize the negative consequences of their unbridled propagation. They are far from even the basics of intelligent behavior. If you ever worked for an animal rescue organization you know that once you start feeding a stock of wild animals you also need to spay and neuter, else the population will get out of hand and cause problems way worse than the original one. Leave those primitives to themselves and care for animals because they are the ones who need to be protected from the encroachment of bipeds into their habitats.

It was quite unnerving to know people were so quick to save the little guy but what about the children!? It will be a great day indeed when the children are in charge of saving many animals as they have.been.saved themselves alreadyj. Not to beat a dead horse, but I'm white. About as white as white can get. My family is from Norway, Finland, and Iceland. Natural white blonde hair and bright blue eyes for everyone in the family. I bet if these children looked like my children, these living conditions would have been considered UNACCEPTABLE. We were given dominion over 2 things on earth: animals and children. We are failing miserably. Lastly, we were given the earth with all of its bounty, the water, the plants the rocks, the fruits and grains and we have all but destroyed it. I'm sure there is life on other planets and this one is known as the "special needs" planet. The short yellow bus kind of special needs.
