I’ve been building Fairmonts since 1989 (specifically wagons because they’re the ultimate sleeper) but Jackstand got himself the original Fox setup (1978 Ford utilized the new Fairmont to test the fox chassis… of course complete success), and everything that bolts onto a Mustang, bolts on the Fairmont. Just 10” longer underneath the rear seat area than a fox Mustang. Anyway, I get the LS power plant because we can only bend JS so far towards the light before he harkens to the call of Darth Vader (the Chevrolet brother’s Godfather). Anyway, Cletus, you and the gang are truly the most well-oiled and interesting crew on KZbin. God bless you all and from Texas… a big helping of, “hell ya, brother!”

A suggestion for the next spectator drags: How about you set yourself up as a “bounty” against any bye runs. If they lose, they still move on to next round, but if they win, they cash out the bounty. You could keep increasing the bounty thru the rounds until someone beats you. If no one wins, you could either save the bounty money for the next race, or distribute the bounty to the. Top 3. This way it’s fair to the rest of the racers, and if someone manages to get lucky, they can get some cash and bragging rights!

I know the feeling of getting smacked down by a sleeper. We were in high-school. I think it was 92'. A friend of mine had an 86 Mustang GT. 5.0 manual with a Paxton. Pretty much had his way with most anything on the street around town. One day, we were antagonizing this old guy in the lane next to us by looking over at him while revving the engine. He was in this beat up rusted out Dodge half ton. He didn't seem to acknowledge us at all. Light turns green, my friend guns it. Low and behold, the old guy does too and he's staying with us. Then he begins to pull away. He beat us to the next stop light by 4-5 car lengths. When we pulled up next to him at the next light he was looking over at us with this big shit-eating grin on his face. My friend yelled over and asked "what do you got in that thing?" The guy just smiles and says, "A big motor" before turning right and continuing on his way. It's definitely a shocking experience being humbled by a car that looks like it belongs in the scrap yard.

Pulled next to some old fart in a 70ish monte carlo with a tiny 454 badge on the fender. My dad kept revving at him and let it go on green. Well the monte pulled away from him like he was standing still and the old dude still wouldnt look over at him at the next light. That was around 86-87

My first car was a 1981 Ford Fairmont. I bought in in 1994 for $300 before I actually had my drivers' license. It was a retired Dept of Agriculture car and was specially ordered with the 4-cylinder engine (the same 4-banger that the late 70's and early 80's mustangs came with). The car would top out on the highway at about 65 with my foot in the floor. I have so many great memories of that car.

Kyle switched to a single precision turbo to get the world record he only did twins to make it unique you don't gain anything, twins work well on V engines because there's two cylinder banks with two exaust sides. With twins on a inline engine one turbo is always going to get more exhaust gas.

Fun fun. I have a stock 350 with 375 hp heads a mild cam headers and aftermarket ignition duel plane eldabrock and 650 dp df carb. My buddy was commuting 50 miles a day in his 78ish la mans and blew his motor so we put mine in it. We were going down the road and it sucked the window out and pulled the headliner right off the roof and into our eyes. No idea how fast we were going but the telephone pols were just a blur. PS i polished and ported the heads and gasket matched the intake and exhaust.
