If you have a musically trained ear, listening to his music can be an out of body experience. This song in particular made me feel like I could hear colors or something. He truly is a Mozart/ Beethoven caliber musician. We are lucky to be alive to hear this man.

Mozart was doing much more complicated than this at like 11 years old though? He’s got some special talent that’s for sure, but I think he needs to build up a bit more of a body of original work before we can start to see what he’s going to become longer term. In my opinion of course.

His style is not really up my valley, but he is definitely some kind of Mozart level type of musical prodigy, so I’m trying to get into his music. People in the jazz world and every other world really is kind of shocked by him as his level of complex harmony, rhythm and time signatures is just insane. The most advanced stuff just looks like breathing to him. And he has like an entire room filled with instruments and he’s insane at all of them. A really cool thing to react to would be his TED talk, that is really just him looping and playing a whole array of different instruments with some really cool technology, showing what he does.

He won one of his four Grammy Awards for this song. 2017 - Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals for "Flintstones" 2017 - Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Capella for "You And I" 2020 - Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals for "All Night Long" 2020 - Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Capella for "Moon River"

In the Bleak Midwinter, All Night Long are two of my fav mind blowing pieces. Although I have to say Moon River is unique. Check out the Logic Session Breakdown and he'll tell you more about how the visuals were created as well as the detail put into the voice layering etc. Enjoy. And Thanks for sharing.

If you feel like checking out some of his original music, I'd recommend "All Night Long" or "With The Love In My Heart" (my two personal favorites of his). For another great cover, I'd go with "Here Comes The Sun".

A tiny bit of detail. The second voice is his Mum, third and fourth his two sisters. This makes me very happy. 😂 There are about 150 different people singing 'Moon' in the opening. They are all people 'on his phone'. He asked them to sing 'Moon' and send him the video. He constructed the harmonies by ear. He has very refined 'perfect pitch' (aka absolute pitch) There is no pitch correction or autotune on his voice. He mixed about 5000 sound files to create the song. He edited the video too, but needed help from a company with *LOTS* of computer power to render some of the frames. Again, I hope you're Happy, Healthy, and Enjoying Your Life. ☮

PLEASE react to more Jacob Collier. He deserves much more coverage. He's done plenty of original music too, of which I'd most recommend Saviour, Hajanga, In The Real Early Morning, With The Love In My Heart, Everlasting Motion, It Don't Matter, and his two recent singles Time Alone With You and In My Bones. If you want more covers, I'd suggest You and I, Flintstones, All Night Long, Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing, P.Y.T. and Here Comes The Sun. A lot of recommendations I know but I'm a fan of basically everything he's put out so I guess just go with what seems interesting to you.

There are SO many songs/videos to choose from. But I’d say start with In The Bleak Midwinter (early in his a capella explorations - just a kid in his family music room, armed with a microphone, camera, and computer) and All Night Long just for the wow factor of his multi-instrument skills (all self-taught) and his vocal collaboration with his childhood heroes Take 6. Then you can go anywhere, trusting he’ll take you places you never expected. And while there’s no official video yet, you HAVE to experience his cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water collaboration with Yebba, John Legend, and Tori Kelly. It’s incredible!!! He really is the Mozart of our age. And a beautiful BEAUTIFUL heart/spirt to boot.

He has a song called “Time To Rest Your Weary Head” which is a more simple song (in that it’s just him and a guitar and not that it isn’t just as expertly crafted as this song) which i originally thought might have been a cover of one of those of the most quintessential songs ever written, the likes of which being “As My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “The Times They Are A-Changin” but it turns out he wrote it himself which makes it all the more special.

You're facial expressions are exactly how I felt! So glad I found this video of yours! I recommend, if you're interested, going and watching his logic session for this song. It is an hour and half long but it is so so so cool to watch. he takes you through his ideas while recording and mixing the song and shows you all of the tracks and talks through tons of his chords. If you are looking for something more mainstream by him I recommend "Feel" it is absolutely beautiful.

I would wholeheartedly endorse viewing JC’s entire catalog of work… it’s all absurdly impressive. A title or two not yet mentioned would be “Don’t You Know” which he recorded with Snarky Puppy or, excellent ones by himself are “Don’t You Worry ‘bout a Thing”… or even “P.Y.T.”

what a great response to this masterpiece. Honestly just go listen to every song in all 3 of his albums, and the gradual dribble he is putting out from his new album(2 out already). It's all at the same level of genius, though of course, this one is somewhat..........extra. The Mozart of our century

He surprises people with that broad and deep low voice coming from such a compact person. Must be the design of the throat, lungs, mouth and sinus's? It's so intriguing that such a big voice comes from such a thin person. The irony in those bear ears. They make him seem even younger. Talent in buckets he has but he is also just fortunate to have that voice and hands that can play fast with such accuracy.

Collier is a force of musical nature beyond words. A couple of Michael Jackson that are breathtaking: "Billie Jean" Jacob Collier & Cory Henry is waaaaay outside the box. "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" by Jacob Collier features him playing a programmable piano live... While it's playing a program!!!

Jacob Collier is an absolute genius, musically and creatively. When you watch his work you might often think of it as almost jazz improv. He did win those Grammies and I believe he won them all from his bedroom. Seriously. I have no doubt Jacob did the entire video, including the editing but I'm just going by what I've picked up didn't do any research. I would suggest you watch his MIT Masterclass videos, he's done a concert with the MIT Orchestra as well... it's probably too long for a reaction video but it's "Imagination off the Charts" Jacob Collier Comes to MIT. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpXXfJKlnt59d9E i also wonder what it would be like to watch his stuff on acid. Oh. It's gonna feel like a double dose...
