I cant help but feel like it bends between a Major Pentatonic scale, Mixolydian, and even Lydian at times. Other than that you could look at it as one continuous giant scale chord like someone already pointed out but. Its more arped than being sung at once at the same time and some of the accapella comes and goes if u look at the faces coming in going its apparent. It could be a simple quartel chord and theres just melody that arps over it to influence the sounds of the scales or scale hes envoking.

Some of my favorite details in this video: 4:08 Is that a hideaway reference in the background? Might be :) 4:40 Cheeky quarter-tone modulation 4:44 Jacob #267 passing the guitar to Jacob #268 5:01 Again, but this time it's Jacob #314 and Jacob #316 5:45 A tritone jump between chords? What does the catholic church have to say about that? 5:55 My favorite chord progression in the song. It's just a I-III-VI, which is not that uncommon, but the extended chords make it the best thing ever. 6:33 HOW DO YOU EVEN DIVIDE A MINOR 3RD IN 5 PARTS WHAT 7:37 There are 190 Jacobs on screen, and no, I'm not counting them again 7:55 Have you ever heard a sliding modulation? No? Then sing along with the highest voice and skip ahead 15 seconds 7:58 Even aliens aren't perfect, the row of Jacobs on the right is slightly misaligned 8:22 This isn't even legally a chord

I think there are nine or ten different harmony parts on this song. He must an incredible imagination. It also uses quartertones, and changes key several times. I think the tuning also changes at some points, so that it starts out at concert pitch (A = 220 Hz) and then gradually (or suddenly) changes to a different tuning. Which is a fascinating new idea. It's good that we have people who are pushing back the boundaries, and taking new approaches, but it still relates back to a classical, well-known song.

i’ve only kind of just realized this but if you have perfect pitch, technically you can play any instrument. Guitar, piano, violin; doesn’t matter; anything with strings, keys, holes, or literally just anything is fair game and it all comes down to mathematics and music theory.

@@shawn980 yeah but actually no You're forgetting about the technical side of things Sure you can make music with WHATEVER you want, but first you need to master all the "movements", techniques and muscle Memory of the instrument I know music some music theory and have relative pitch ( i can think about the pitch in my head, if that makes sense. It's not proper "perfect pitch", it's more of a "sing the note in you're head and give it a name" type of thing ), but if you gave me a guitar, which i can't play, i wouldn't be able to do anything, simply because i lack the skill to USE the instrument and play what I "hear" in my mind

@@Thalos_s i made a rebuttle to this, it was a few paragraphs long, and it all got deleted. Let me summarize. You can play any chord or any note on any instrument if you have perfect pitch and understand the composition of chords. However, it would assist in learning to play any instrument.

I absolutely CAN’T believe that I’ve never heard of this guy until tonight. When I listened to this, I can’t explain exactly what I felt. It was like I was listening to the music that should play while my soul ascends to heaven, or some sort of higher plane. To say that I had chills throughout the entire piece would be an understatement, and when he hit that final chord, it was like a physical _vibration_ of pure joy shook me from my toes up to the top of my head. Still, I can’t fully put into words what listening to it for the first time was like. This. Arrangement. Is. _PHENOMENAL!!!!_ In every sense of the word, this is _incredible._ Thank you for blessing the world with this absolute masterpiece, Jacob. It could be argued that this arrangement is too complicated and only written with musicians' enjoyment in mind. But when someone goes THIS far and it works, talent like this must be accepted as it is. It's coming through him, translated through the prism of his being into the sound we hear. Astounding work.
@davepatois2974 жыл бұрын
How could something like thid only appeal to musicians, i mean, i should be orgasm for musician to unfold every little subtlety of this arrangement but it's so beautiful even without obsessing over which key he uses at x moment of the song.

@Tommy gibstain ight, your opinion man. I personally love it.
@ACRVL4424 жыл бұрын
@Tommy gibstain I'm with you here. It's so dense; every phrase has so many things going on. Its complication is the focus, not motives or anything you'd connect with. Music becomes more math and technicality and that's where many people disconnect. I also don't like the mix. Original is much more organic, feels(/is) far less processed, and is exactly as complex as it needs to be. Collier deserves recognition for effort, but this wasn't necessary. This comes off much more like an exercise than it is a musical experience. Of course, all opinion here. And theory is why I'm involved in music, for any further curious about where this is coming from.
@hennie53074 жыл бұрын
@Tommy gibstain didn't Mozart 'have too many notes'. Every major composer had detractors because they did something else. Just because you don't like it now doesn't mean you should throw away what he brought to the table.

AlibifortheAfterlife that’s true, but I think there’s also a beauty in people who don’t have a musical ear and have a lack of music theory knowledge in the way they can appreciate this music purely on how it sounds rather than appreciating the concepts, like microtonality, that it incorporates after all if these concepts are actually concepts that can be used to add to the music, the fact of knowing about microtonality and being able to heard is not necessarily required to appreciate the music and the concepts that may seem foreign by name, in some cases this maybe subconscious, or others, a notification of difference maybe be there, yet perhaps it is not identifiable for a label with a lack of theory knowledge, interesting things to think about

It moves so many...young and old...from all backgrounds to complete TEARS. I see this mostly toward the end of the song "Waiting round the bend, Huckeberry friend, find the rainbows end".....almost everyone reacting breaks down and cries at THIS PART. Oh I hope not. To listen... really listen... to Jacob's performances takes WORK. I don't believe in "heaven" but if I did, I'd want it to be a place of PEACE and QUIET... not a never ending kalaidescope of chords and dischords. He presents us with a smorgasbord of multi-coloured sound that dazzles and captures and suspends our senses in mid air. Jacob is obviously an unique talent and I treasure him as I would the rarest of gems. But sometimes a simple hot dog makes a satisfying meal.

Fantastical genius- a glimpse into the musical future that is so wonderful/musically, vocally, artistically, harmonically, creatively, and it all started in his own home studio in his bedroom at home. So glad to see him now flourishing and getting famous and recognized the world i like hearing his own compositions now….
