Jacob went from being a confused but lovable muggle, to explaining Three Card Monte to his wizard friends.... I mean, family members. Since, Newt is his brother in law and Lally is totally getting it on with Theseus. Jacob has come a long way, and proven he is actually the most magical one of all.

I never got how its supposed to betray his lack of knowledge or whatever. There are plenty of times in the canon where adult wizards got new wands. The students probably thought he inherited this supposedly powerful wand from a family member
