Why should we be concerned about online abuse when it is so easy to take care of? Online, whether on social media, or in a forum, or on a video game, you almost always have the ability to make use of some sort of block/ignore function against anyone who is being nasty towards you. If someone starts sending me insults on twitter, I can block them, and I instantly don't have to deal with them anymore. It's such an easy thing to do, and yet people still see the need to tackle online abuse.

I don't disagree that you can block people and not hear from them anymore but just blocking people is treating the symptom not the root of the behaviour. I'm not 100% sure what the root cause is as in my experience boys aren't raised to send women violence, rape and death threats but that's why it needs to be discussed.

its not just boys - according to pew research the most harassed gender is male - and the most to harass women is other women the research also showed that 50% of women find harassment a big deal and 64% of men thought it was no big deal
