I love how she's displaying how Borzois think they're lap doggos. Ive owned many and this is all highly accurate.

I used to foster for Samoyeds, Huskies, Australian Shepherds, and Border Collies - every dog is a lapdog basically. I have never had a breed of dog that didn't like to at least occasionally enjoy lying on top of me. I've had a few dogs that didn't really care for it, but they were rare.

Every dog thinks they are a lap dog . I had a dog named big boy he thought he was a lap dog it was like a car trying to sit on your lap .
@fuzzywzhe Жыл бұрын
@@swordofallah1129 I had a dog that would lie on my back in bed. He'd put his two front paws on either side of my neck and rest his head against mine, and his two rear legs on either side of my waist. I would up with chest pains from the weight, but I slept very well. Just a wonderful and affectionate dog. I'll never had a dog that was just so great.

@@esperborzoi are they very easy to take care of and feed? My parents and I own 1 dog (miniature poodle) and 1 cat (Russian blue) but they don’t wanna get another dog or cat since my dog and cat are a pain to take care of. even though I want to get a borzoi. So I’m here to ask if their easy and non-stressful to take care of.
@esperborzoi Жыл бұрын
@@EffanyCo that’s a very tough question, they are easy in some ways but difficult in others and all dogs require love attention and proper diet. Furthermore , every dog is different, every borzoi therefore too, so determining if they are going to be a pain is nearly impossible. It’s probably best to have an honest conversation and see if there is any room for any additional animals in your life, and if not that’s ok and you can plan to get a borzoi at some point in the future when everyone is on board.

I adopted a year old Borzoi from a rescue about 9 months ago. She was in a situation living with a large number of Borzoi. The first 3 months was challenging. We also have 3 standard sized dachshunds, so that was another challenge. I had a Borzoi years ago that I got as a pup, and I have noticed a big difference with the behavior. I don't know if it is the stubborn trait or part of her past, but once she goes out in the yard, she won't come in until she is ready. We have tried numerous tricks to get her in. You are right, they are smart and catch on quickly. Next month I am taking her to obedience and hope that we have some success. We do love her and show her love all of the time. It took her a while, but now she cuddles with us on the sofa and she found a spot on the bed where she fits with the pack. They are a special breed and it take a lot of patience.
@esperborzoi5 жыл бұрын
Linda Hess-Layne you’re so right, patience is the key, especially with adopting - you never know what they went through prior. My parents adopted a 3 year old from overseas, she had a lot of medical and behavioral issues, and took her almost two years to really acclimate. Thank you so much for taking the time to write 👍♥️

Love this video, bro. I rescued a borzoi mix about three years ago. At first, I thought he didn't like me -- because, as you know, they are aloof. Thank GOD -- about two weeks after I got him -- the vet told me he was a borzoi and encouraged me to read about the breed because of their unique qualities. **After reading, everything made sense!!** I love what you said about their EQ. Oh, that's true. I learned early in our training just how sensitive he is. Borzois are great -- and so are you!

Shared my life with 4 magnificent Borzoi. The 1st, Ayuri van Asin (belonged to my friend) entered my life in 1976. That's when I fell in love with the breed. 2nd was "Andra Tobore" born in New York state in 1977. Soft and gentle and loving Andra. 3rd " Binze van Asin" (yes Yuri's younger sister) She was a "recycle" dog and very protective of me after dark. Never leaving my side and barking if people came too close. Never felt that save ever since. 4th.... My last Boy, my dear heart, "Perchotin's Czar Baryshnikov"( I called him Bree )born July 30th 1998-he died in 2009. Yes I've known Borzoi love and it still hurts, my missing him. I wish I could find another "recycle" Borzoi, an older one, since I'm older now too. But I don't know how to go about it. In the Netherlands where I live, you don't see many Borzoi and the Borzoi club, wasn't very forthcoming, so now I spend my live with 2 10 yr old Parson Jack Russells(!!!) Yes I know...the difference is very big. But I love them also of course. Maybe one day though.......

Admittedly I've never heard of borzois being referred to as 'hypoallergenic'. They can be heavy shedders (although shedding patterns can differ between sexes/coat types/etc), and the length of their fur means they readily pick up pollen from the outdoors. It's anecdotal, but I found out I was allergic to dogs because of my borzoi - we had only owned Bichon/Maltese mixes as kids, so my zoi was my first shedding breed and I pretty much have to load up on antihistamines when I want to groom him (and I have to do things like changing my sheets/blankets more often).
@lvsoad223 жыл бұрын
Being “hypoallergenic” has nothing to do with shedding patterns. It’s a protein on the skin that causes allergies in people. And yes, it will stick to hair that gets moved around but you can have dogs that don’t shed at all and still cause allergies. Likewise, dogs can shed a lot and cause no allergies.
@jermu87062 жыл бұрын
hello, very allergic to everything dude here. Shedding itself has nothing to do with how bad the allergies get, there are some breeds i can tolerate even though they shed a lot, and some that dont but i feel like im going to die if im in the same house for too long
@idiotically-everything Жыл бұрын
Yeah. In the spring when pollen is at it's highest, I become mildly allergic to my own dog xD It's not his fault my body is silly so I just take allergy meds and give him a quick rinse every night before he climbs in bed with me to get rid of all the pollen and dandruf he has collected in his curls. He does really like the blow drier.

Generally speaking, any hunting dogs requires training and motivation to get them to do things. They're not hunting so they're just kinda waiting for something they find fun, a dog who never played with a toy isn't going to find a toy fun unless it's motivated.

I loved my Borzoi pups that I raised over 20 years. Best dogs ever! If you pay attention to their exercise needs. They need a 5 mile run per day then they couch potato the other 23 hours a day. They need their own couch, they don't do floors! Only negative issues is that they don't live long enough! If you have a Borzoi over 10 years old you are so fortunate. If they get out of your yard do not chase on foot, get in car and start driving! It's the only way to catch up with them. My Borzoi were raised with horses cattle small dogs cats chickens rabbits and never chased or killed anything. My Borzoi were particularly good with children but occasionally on guard with male strangers. I thought that was odd behavior but I liked it because I believed Borzoi could sense an off energy. I especially liked how men choose to cross the street ahead of them to avoid them on walks. Kids walked right up to them to pet them. Borzoi really like that.

@-o_o_o_o_o_o_o_o-4 жыл бұрын
Loved this video, underneath are my thoughts on the breed if anyone reading the comment section is interested! That comment ''better memory and high emotional IQ'' is totally right. My borzoi is easily the most ''human-like'' dog I've had, he has a better memory than me and sometimes I feel like he understands everything I say, he reads my emotions and little gestures so well that even words and sentences that haven't been taught to him specifically are understood. He's easily far more intelligent than my sheltie or GSD, which both rank at the top of almost every dog intelligence list. The borzoi's intelligence is just hard to measure, because it can't be seen at the training center, but in the everyday live when you live with one. It always vaguely irritates me when someone says borzoi's aren't smart. Just because they don't have the same drive to work (by this I mean tricks, obedience training etc) doesn't say anything about a dog's intelligence. Borzoi's are very smart, their intelligence is just different from dogs like the border collie. Another thing that people say is that you can't train them, even some borzoi owners say this. I think this is incorrect, my borzoi and borzois I know learned basic everyday obedience very easily, with little to no training, just by living and experiencing with their owners. Things like their name, coming when called, walking nicely on a leash, everyday handling, on average things like these, especially the last two, can be a lot easier to teach than with service dogs like retrievers or shepherds. Tricks, agility and obedience training can also be taught, but with this a person needs to remember to be patient. Repeating the same thing many times, pressuring the dog, demanding too much, waiting for a very fast and precise delivery, training when the dog isn't feeling it are all things that can kill all motivation a borzoi has. Also I admit, if your borzoi isn't interested in treats or toys, training them can in tricks etc can be next to impossible. My borzoi finds agility obstacles fun so he will jump and climb over things when I ask him to even without treats, so sometimes if the dog finds some actions fun, they will do it just to please you. But they have no real will to please, by this I mean they won't do unpleasant things or work passionately for just your approval. So training a borzoi is a lot different from dogs with a drive for this kind of work, but with right price, timing and a sense of humor/patience, they definitely do learn things. The same kind of instant, solid obedience like with a bc usually can't be expected though, a borzoi is an independent dog bred for pretty independent work. If a rabbit/cat/deer/raccoon etc suddenly runs into a borzoi's sight, most borzoi's won't hear anything at this point and will give chase. If they catch the prey, the prey is dead. Because of this I always remind people interested in this breed not to let them off leash anywhere near roads, and for a borzoi's running speed, if there's a road within a mile, that's too close. I also recommend wearing a muzzle when off leash, just so your dog can't catch and kill any wild life. With a bozoi's speed they can catch most animals and they will kill. While most borzois are very gentle and sweet, some do have a flaming temper and their warning sings can be very subtle and hard to spot. Instead of growling or showing teeth, some borzois will just go still and tense and then attack without other warnings. There are some breeders who think this kind of behavior is part of the breed, which is unacceptable. Any dog, especially a big one, should have proper warning sings and not use their teeth easily. So watch out for that when getting a puppy, question the breeders thoughts on this or it the parents of the litter have shown any of this behavior. A borzoi sheds a LOT. Many borzois shed constantly and they leave a lot of hair everywhere. Borzois, especially male ones don't always live that long these days. Some females will live up to 14 years and some males up to 12 yo, dogs older than these aren't very common. But on average, at least here in Europe, a male will live around 7-10 yo and a female 8-11 yo. They used to be more long lived on average, but like with many other breeds, the average lifespan has sadly lowered. A borzoi is usually relatively healthy in everyday life, but watch out for gastric dilation/bloat. Also back problems occur more and more, lots of breeders don't talk about this, but more and more borzois have back problems. Because of this I hope people, especially breeders, would start x-raying their dog's backs, even if the dog seems healthy. A lot of older borzois have back pains and people assume it's because of old age, but it could also be an underlying back issue that just starts acting out at an older age.
@esperborzoi4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for such an amazing and heartfelt response. Lots of great advice and experience. I seriously wonder more now about the difference in breeding between UK and US, living on 7-10 years for a zoi seems so low to me.
@-o_o_o_o_o_o_o_o-4 жыл бұрын
@@esperborzoi When I first got a zoi I thought they were long lived for their size too, but I've become a bit concerned since. My first zoi died only at 2 due to bloat (even though I always made him rest an hour before feeding and 2 hours after). Then my current borzoi's grandma died at nine, I was told it's normal... And when his dad and uncle died at 7, I was again it's pretty normal these days :( One of my friend has had 6 males from very different pedigrees and they all lived only 6-7yo. Another friend has had 5 borzois, both females and males ever since the 90's and none of them have reached 10 years. I've started to pay a lot of attention to the dying ages of borzois in my country, and for a borzoi to live past 10, especially for a male is unfortunately not necessarily to be expected... There's a listing in my country, where the average lifespan has been counted paced on the death age of 633 borzois, and it's only 8 years 8 months... This listing has both imports from dogs all over the world and dogs born here (I live in Scandinavia). My current boy is currently 8 and even though his condition is pretty good, I'm always afraid, because many zois I know have died suddenly. That's why I often tell people to pay a lot of attention lifespans in the pedigree of a borzoi puppy, when they're looking to get one. (English isn't my first language so sorry for any mistakes)

@@-o_o_o_o_o_o_o_o- That is so disturbing! I know that cancer can be carried genetically, and my parents dealt with that two one of their zois (cancer from their line that they were not informed of), but every single one of their borzois lived over 10 and one (male actually lived almost 16 years.

@@esperborzoi Of those listed 633 dogs I mentioned, 105 died of cancer. Old age was the most common listed reason at 161 dogs and the average lifespan for them was 11 years 5 months. Heart diseases are also one of the most common reasons at 47 dogs. My current male's dad died of a sudden heart attack and I also know cases where a young dog, at some cases only around 1 yo died of a sudden heart attack without any sings before.

Did you ask her to get in your lap or is she a lap dog by nature? ☺️ Haha she looked like a pretzel at the end lol! I'm obsessed with these beauties!.

Esper was a nervous puppy, so to calm her down I would sit with her in my lap and the behavior stuck.

borzois, greyhounds, whippets, and afghan hounds come from the same sighthound genetics. they're just lovely, warm, wonderful companions. very silly, lazy, and affectionate 🐶❤ before choosing, please consider adopting a retired greyhound racer. they make amazing friends, they're quiet and calm, and they love snuggling. only 6 states still allow dog racing (good), so if you've ever wanted a greyhound, the time is now. once they're all adopted, NOBODY is going to breed greyhounds in the US. they're going to virtually disappear. they all need loving homes. how about yours? 😉

Plenty of greyhounds out there that have a lot of similar traits that people can adopt also
