Fun fact, only early Wii’s have support for reading DVD movies, Nintendo removed support in the hardware, so it doesn’t work on a modded system.

@@noahfigs6155 First you would need to soft mod your Wii, and then use the application shown in this video. But, and this is a big but, it is not recommended playing DVD's on the Wii as the Wii disc drive is a bit slower than a normal DVD player, and you would stress the drive.

This stuff warms my heart. I still have my Wii and will never part with it. Me and my sister have all sorts of weird Miis and save data on there. This made me want to hook mine up again. So many hours of fun happened on that thing and the whole vibe of the menu and the look of it is so nostalgic. Easily one of the greatest game consoles ever.

@@social6077No mod chip is needed. Just homebrew. Mine will show up in the disc channel as an authentic game. You can also use uLoader to load burned Wii games from a USB DVD Drive.

Hey! I’m here to explain the many “Oma’s” and why they’re all old. So basically Oma means grandma and Opa means granddad in Dutch. Just like the Vampier Mii on a Wii Jacob got grom goodwill, Vampier means Vampire here in the Netherlands! Hope it helps!!

Just to touch on the whole "every wii turned into a netflix box" thing. It was the first way for the average consumer to easily stream netflix on random old analog televisions. Everyone already had a wii, many people had a netflix subscription for DVD's already. It was the perfect app for the target demographic at the perfect time for a services that was becoming a household name.

Worth mentioning that for a good while if your only account was on the Wii you got a lower subscription rate as you couldn't stream full HD and you weren't using up a ton of bandwidth, you couldn't get that on another device at the time At least it was in the UK where I am :)

I did a dumpster dive in 2021 at a local GameStop and found 22 Wii's and 4 WiiU's. All of which worked and passed recert just fine. They were in great shape. Just tossed. They quickly became junk consoles about a year after release.

I actually installed a chip in mine that bypassed the copyright chip in it. It allowed any burned disc to be played. It wasn't too difficult to install either.

Dont even need a chip. You can softmod one and run games either off burned media or portable hard-drive. You cal even run GameCube games off a drive. Something that was thought for the longest time to be impossible.

@@Gonzo-76 Now, it's a lot easier to soft mod. At the time, it was pretty easy to hard mod, but the soft mod process was kind of complex. It makes way more sense now to soft mod, but the hard mod process is not difficult. You just need a Nintendo screwdriver to open the case.

i think a lot of the wii's ended up being netflix machines because it was something a lot of people had and it was when netflix started going more digital instead of getting dvd's in the mail and having a netflix channel just fit right in.

I know this happened before, but for when the play time for a game says over 24 hours, I think what happens is that the Wii logs the play time when you leave the game. I was thinking maybe someone maybe accidentally left it on for over a day.

can confirm, it was pretty normal for when I had friends over growing up to just put it on YT or Netflix and use it for the whole day and night until either my parents turned it off or one of us did if we woke up early enough. My childhood wii was subject to so many lunchtime with Smosh videos and Ian Is Bored videos throughout the night.

I still have a working Wii console so far which is over 15 years old now already even though it still works fine and everything for the time being, and my Wii that I have is also one of the backwards compatible models too since it can play GameCube games which is really sweet.

FYI, when you hear the small bits rattling around on the inside. Most likely, these are pieces of the broken flap hinges. The ends snap off and fall inside.

In some modded wii's you should try to press the power and reset bottons at the same time, to access the priiloader menu, its a faster way to access some features on the console

my high guess is in 5:20, the Wii is set to EDTV/HDTV 480p which results not getting signal when plugging in Composite Cables instead of Component Cables. It also might be a Wifi or Bluetooth brick.

I love my original wii. It plays my GameCube games,(later versions don’t). I put homebrew on my system and EVERY cart I own from Sega and Nintendo back to master system genesis NES Super NES All are there… I packed up al my classic consoles in boxes and are stashed away and everything I loved for decades is now in one box…. Not what Nintendo intended but when they removed store on the Wii platform, this was the next best option…. Plus it plays legit dvd with no problem. It’s an all around entertainment box. At least now that it’s been modded that is.

Older Wii’s can be modded to play burned games both Wii and GameCube as well as DVD movies. Newer models will need an external DVD drive to play burned Wii and DVD movies. GameCube support was never added for external DVD drives.

The Wii Consoles that don't work, I would take out the internal and external good parts (also flaps) and use it to fix other Wii Consoles you got. I really love it when you turn on a Wii Console and you go into the Mii Channel to look at the Mii Profiles and find the funny named Mii Profiles lol.

Most durable console I ever had was my ps2, we used it to prop up a broken futon frame and put like 600lbs on top of it and it still works 20+ years later

Funny thing about the video's thumbnail implying that a modded Wii is somehow illegal. lol Modding it and playing things on it isn't in any way shape or form illegal. Never has been. It IS illegal to play pirated games. But on that same note? It is NOT illegal to play backups OR downloads of games you own, which is helpful to those hardcore collectors since this fact works out for ANY system. This has been a basic fact in emulation for damned near 30 years now despite Nintendo trying to say otherwise. lol

Actually you're wrong. Modding a Wii IS actually illegal. You are confusing this with the basic concept of emulation itself which is not illegal, but yes, modding, jailbreaking or any other way of modding a video game system IS actually both illegal and a direct violation of the console's terms of service that YOU agree to when purchasing one. You seem to have gotten your facts mixed up. Modding consoles in itself is illegal. And specifically what he's also talking about in the video... it is HIGHLY illegal to SELL one. Which is what any used game store would be in direct violation for when selling this used console. So, the video is correct and you are not.
