The producer, Ben Bram, won a Grammy for this video and accepted his Grammy alongside Pentatonix who won their Grammy for the arrangement! It was awesome! Ben's a friend of Scott's and was the person who suggested Scott add a bass and beatboxer to his High School Trio. It was the birth of Pentatonix and Ben's been with them ever since.

I absolutely love your technical comments. Any professional singer will confirm that the sound techs are super important. I greatly admire PTX for their raw talent and live performances but there is a lot to say about the team of professionals surrounding them: stylists, makeup artists, videographers, choreographers, sound techs, editors, and I am sure I am skipping quite a few. And through it all, they still have the enthusiasm and modesty to be able to sing totally acoustically, tech free versions to their VIP fans before shows. Brave. Thanks for your reaction. 🤗

As others have said, this was recorded by them, in a closet in one of their apartments. I'm slightly surprised you didn't mention Kirstin singing Around the World as it panned from left to center to right, but a lot of people miss her singing around the world because it is in the background during Kevin's ridiculous beat boxing while Avi's hitting those ridiculous lows when singing his part.
@keithshowell66883 жыл бұрын
You are right Jacob; The post-production of the video is just as much notable as the vocals and probably the real reason for the Grammy Pentatonix received. Avi's bass lines and solo are so "sick" I bet most men on earth wish they could perform is parts at least once in life! Definitely the best acapella since The Manhattan Transfer and Take 6.

A bit late to this party, but I sincerely appreciate your pointing out the production value of this piece (both audio/visual) along with giving deserved credit to their talent but also technical understanding of how to use their voices, while also talking about the actual arrangement. It's rare to see a reactor talk about all these points and it's really nice to see. I also recently discovered PTX and its fun seeing other's reactions to them. I have a history in audio production and for whatever reason people jump at me for talking about how their songs are produced. Maybe from this point forward I'll just point them to this reaction lol. Good job man!

I think the boxes are a simple separate layer/track/whatever it's called in the editing software you might use. I used to play around with Sony Vegas as a fanvid editor (years ago) and I think it was called a track. I think you might also need to do a bit of After Effects or some other graphics editor to cut out or lower the opacity in the boxes where there isn't a face. It would take a loooong time, that's for sure.

The story behind the video is hysterical. They had no money for the video so they bought one set of ultra-blue contacts, a high-tech sunglasses and some glow sticks and filmed this with each of them taking turns filming in a closet with a ring light. Avi was fourth in line to use the contacts, which super irritated his eyes (likely because they weren't cleaned very well between uses).
