I had amazon sword in a 29 gallon with pool filter sand substrate. They eventually outgrew that tank, though it took almost a year and a half. I got all kinds of baby plants for awhile too.

I have the Amazon sword rosette variety and I'm glad I decided to go with that one. Holy cow, the regular ones can get big! I love how they look in the tanks💞

I've been doing sand and root tabs for years and getting growth that rivals any planted substrate on the market...I think too many people scare off beginners from trying sand , you do have to be careful with sand long-term but if you are keeping up with good maintenance and have good flow certainly it's unlikely you will toxic levels of gas build up but yeah I swear by the sand substrate and I've noticed against my eco complete or aquasoil my plants are always more heathy looking and grow better in sand!!! Plus propagation and planting is alot easier!!!

Rosette swords are gorgeous with their hammered leaves. I somewhat recently got my hands on a pinwheel amazon sword, long narrow leaves, somewhat curly, and the plant stays small. It's used in the background in a 10 gallon and the leaves don't reach the surface of the water. Would be a great midground in a larger tank too.

I bought Amazon swords because everyone says they’re beginner friendly. Mine died and killed another plant by sucking all the nutrients up. The amount of ferts they need is crazy. No one ever mentions this. I had brand new eco-complete substrate and put in root tabs.

I wish I had watched this video before I bought my plants at the pet store!!! I would've purchased them from your website. I'm sure I will need more in the future, if I get my way I will be making a grow out tank😁😁😁

Cool, thanks for the video. Just bought 9 amazon swords.The biggest one is 2.5feet. The rest are smaller, like the one you had in your hand. They look great. I have them in sand. Need to get some root tabs though. Didn't know about the Rosette sword. I like those. I may get some of those too.

Dont try the cutting them in half thing unless you have spares, ive done it successfully, but the last one I tried it on I lost both halves, let it grow a bit, it'll produce more plants on the same stem, you can just split them off. Also maybe most fish are safe, but my green phantom plecos loved my amazon swords!

When planting them I always leave about1/4" of the roots visible because I feel I might get some rot from burying it too deep. Do you think that is counterproductive or something you would do?

It will naturally pull itself in place, however there should not be a need for concern. (Responding for future viewers)

Hi, does flaming sword and echinodorus parviflorus also send out runners ? Cause i havent seen mine doing that. I would say my flaming sword is about 12'' tall an produces new leafs in the centre. I planted them in aquairon black sand by Oliver Knott. I also use seachem root tabs, all in 1 fert or seachem line of ferts an co2. Im learning a lot from your channel.

Hey. Can you just place them in the tank with the plastic cups? Or do you need to remove them? Anyone can answer this for me.

Can mystery snails help with trimming the dead material off the plant? Also, will they provide enough nutrients with their poop to where you don't need root tabs even if you only have sand. I ask because I have a rosette sword and I have only had it for about 2 months. The leaves are melting and it seems the snails are eating the dead and dying leaves but new leaves are coming out and it has already sent a flower stalk up out of the water. Should I maybe get some root tabs? Also, would you recommend the solid cake style tabs or the gel style tabs like aquarium co-op's easy green root tabs?

I've had good results with my Malaysian Trumpet Snails. They burrow into the sand in the morning, aerating it and allowing the poop to sink deeper. My sword only lost one leaf when I planted it and is doing great.

I have what I bought as amazon sword, but it seems to be propagating weird: at the tips of each of the leaves, roots started growing and started growing little leaflets.

My rosettes very frequently send up stems with plantlets. One plant has given me 6, plus side shoots coming off main plant. Problem is, the roots suffer. Any ideas on how to get the root system stronger? I have fluval stratum substrate.

Is it okay If l plant my Amazon swords 1 inch apart? I bought them online and didn't expect them to be so big and I feel bad throwing some away so I planted them with atleast 1 inch space
@h2oplants630
@h2oplants630 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's no problem. They will fill in. Think of them as trees. The further apart they are, the more they will fill out. Otherwise they will bunch up a bit but still do good.
