I busted.I was so pissed,I walked away.got a call the next day to check out my ground with a different one.it worked perfectly.man said come back.a forklift with chains drove over my ground and another man's later on.he had the same problem as me. don't beat yourself up.I'm retired in 3 years.I can now,but I love the game.

To each their own . You might not be saying it if your front end was pumping out 300 joints a day . Been there done it . what is the wall thickness.109 .125 wall .156 wall etc . It is hard physical labor . dip your shoulder ,hip into the pipe. keep them narrow .never lay down . if you can cap a hundred a day . almost zero repairs, you have arrived . if you haven't busted a test you haven't welded much . get back on the phone till you get another job. keep your mouth shut about busting a test . keep on keeping on . funny how a doctor can bury his mistakes a welder can't . Your reputation is the most valuable thing a welders got . first you get good then you get fast . better to be run off for being slow then a bad welder . What a rush though when you can keep up with the boys ,do good work and get the shit paid out of you . what a drug . now go home and hug the old doll . As an inspector who has tested over 2,000 welders since 1988 I have had one welder pass a test who bragged they had never busted one. First job as a inspector was testing welders fir Fergerson in Lovington NM. Chief came up to me and told me to run the first 4 welders off. I started to protest and was asked if I wanted to stay on. So I looked them out on their tacks. As the Chief predicted, tightened the rest up. A test is just another weld. Once and a while you pop one. Such is life.
@JacobSchofield4 жыл бұрын
You have to do what you have to do. that would defenetly tighten some guys up for sure. Im sure that wasn't situation to get put into either.

@@JacobSchofield That was a different time. You would not even be allowed to test if you showed up with a Miller.
@frankperry15434 жыл бұрын
@@curtisstewart3179 I've been working construction for years, and the welders have almost always been Millers. Mostly Bobcat 250s. Are the Lincolns really superior when it comes to pipe? Just curious.
@curtisstewart31794 жыл бұрын
@@frankperry1543 The SA 200 was and probably still is THE pipeline welding machine. They are ultra reliable and their design is bulletproof. If you are on some ROW 15 miles from paved road and 30 miles more to town, you want reliability. If you are the welding boss with that welder on the firing line you want the welders to burn 30 to 50 pounds of 3/16 for 9 hours. You know the SA 200 can do it. Is it the BEST welder? Lincoln fell behind when it came to engine driven MIG and TIG. When Miller was putting out factory machines capable of MIG and TIG you had to cobble this with Lincoln. But today, it is more welder preference and the engines have become very reliable. But you will not see the small engine driven rigs because you burn that 30 to 50 pounds of 3/16 for a few days you will burn the machine up. They may have 100% duty cycle but it is not Maxine/Maxine 9 hours a day.

Colorado is awesome. Idea. New Rigwelder takes on structural bid projects all the way up the trip. In each city. Before destination. You drive up to contractors trailer on new build sites. Resturants has stations hotels etc. Handrails number gaurds steel coulomns. You hit and research every small and med company there. Get numbers and leave cards bud job on site. Find suppliers in the area. That way if you just your test . Your working all the way up and back. And probably will land more connections and jobs in your life. Great idea. But you would have to plan ahead. By the time you get to the yard site. Yuh have worked your ass off.

Lukas Meaux first thing I would say is start acquiring what tools you can as you can. Second you can either go to a welding school which isn’t a bad path if you have a good one in your area, or you can get a job as a helper. The big thing for you right now, learn as much as you can from your teachers and make the most of the practice time available to you.
